I am getting married in September in Vegas. We are flying in as are all of our guests (25 guests). We are not having a reception but instead will have a dinner the night before so everyone can meet each other before the wedding. Should we do favors? And if so, what are some ideas? My absolute No's are:
1. Anything "Vegas"-themed
2. Cd's of our favorite songs (NObody wants these)
3. Anything too heavy or bulky or breakable to pack in our luggage (or meltable - ie no chocolate)
4. Anything else that is lame or cheesey that people will throw out when they get home

thanks!

Favors are a waste of your time and precious resources. In your case, you'd have to haul them all in.

I'd just skip it. Your guests are going to have wonderful memories of a great time!

That's a wonderful favor!

Anything with candy. There are some awesome candy molds out there (for chocolate) that you can make so easily and it's very inexpensive to buy chocolate and make them. They also have candy molds where you can make chocolate lollipops or chocolate covered pretzel sticks. When I sit down and wait for dinner at a wedding i'm usually getting pretty hungry. It's always good to incorporate candy or a small snack because some guests haven't eaten since breakfast and will be starving! Stay away from favors like personalized candles or whatever. People just throw that stuff away. Not many people I know would take home and actually keep a personalized item that had my picture or name on it.

I like the idea of the poker chips (again- I know you are avoiding the Vegas thing- sorry!) BUT- if you check with some of the casinos and buy a minimum (I believe $100 min.) they will personalize the chips to say whatever you'd like...

...also perhaps a spa or dinner gift certificate for use while they are there (depends on the budget though)

one other possibility- since you have only 25, I'm assuming they are all close to you- what about photos of the guest with you and your new spouse?

OR...just scrap the whole favors idea- like the woman said in one of the responses- being in Vegas is favor enough!

have fun and congratulations

Favors are not required in either case. Feel free to do them or not as you please. Just keep in mind that the favors most likely to be taken and used in the intended manner are edible ones (chocolates or mints, not Jordan almonds...I only used Jordan almonds because I like them a lot and knew I'd get to eat the leftovers!) and they are usually consumed either on the spot or on the way home.

Alas for all the thought and effort that goes into choosing most favors, they do tend to get left behind at the party, or shoved in a drawer somewhere never to be looked at again.

My recommendation? Make them edible or leave them out.

I would just not do favors then. Your "No's" basically eliminate everything and its hard to find a favor people will like that not edible.

The only other option I can think of that might fit is to give them a nice/unique luggage tag. You could even send them out with your invites as a pre-favor (then you wouldn't have to worry about lugging them to Vegas with you).

I personally am not a fan of favors... they seem like a waste of time and money.

But if you must have them, perhaps keychains with your engagement picture in them. Small... inexpensive... will be used again and again.
I know you don't want anything Vegas themed... but whenever I visit Sin City I usually leave with a headache. A little bottle of Advil might be thoughtful. ;)

I know you said nothing breakable but this is what we are doing and when packed well won;t break.
We ordered personalized shot glasses at around .61 each it was an inexpensive favor but something that almost everyone uses. These won't get thrown away!!

Wedding favors are a waiste of money. the are usually left on the tables for the clean up crew to throw away. and people usually have wedding favors for their reception table. you said you are not having a reception so what do you need favors for?

Item #4 on your list essentially excludes any favor, unless it's edible.

Item #3 on your list excludes anything else.

Sounds to me like you'll be skipping favors...And my guess is that your guests won't notice.

For my wedding I purchased magents (clear glass pebbles with colored words underthe glass). They came in a little clear-lidded tin with colored tissue paper. And you can chose what words you'd want. We chose "Live Laugh Love" in our fall wedding colors of green, red and orange. It's funny seeing them all over the office and our friend's houses now. People actually kept them!

Another good idea for edible factor is personallized M&Ms. You can order them at the M&Ms webiste.
