I had heard from cat rescuer friends that putting some garden dirt on the top of the litter can change that situation. That is the smell and texture the cat is used to.
I suggested that to someone else here and she responded that it worked beautifully.

If she is continually going in the same place, put the litter box there until she starts to use it. After she gets used to that, move the box about 1 ft per day closer to where you want the litter box to be. She should follow it and continue to use it. Worked for me in the past.

well place her in the litter box and with her paw, paw at the litter. naturally, she should know what to do from there.
if not then you are just going to have to train her. If she goes anywhere but the litter box, take her to it and gently spank her bottom, and tell her no. then place her in the litter box. and just keep doing this, and soon she will see that the only place she doesn't get punished for doing her business is the litter box.

Try bringing the cat to the box and rubbing her tush in the cat litter. Keep her locked or gated in a room with the box. If she goes anywhere but the box, you show her it and then stick her in the box again. It will take patience, but the cat will catch on.
Good luck.

Every time you feed your cat after it is down pick it up and drop it in the litter box or take it outside and put it in an area with a little litter .
do this every time you get up and before you go to bed... Your Kitty will catch on quick....

I would try having it stay in a house with another cat for a couple of days. Most cats are taught by viewing other Cats.

When she is about to pee, put her in the litterbox, show her how to dig with her paw, and she will get the idea. If she doesn't get it the first time, take the poo or some pee from the floor and put it in the litterbox, then show it to her, as you cover it with sand. I think she will understand.
