You know like the expression "Facing your demons?" Your awful memories and bad things in you? Wouldn't that make more sense?

Yes the Bible is full of figurative and literal stories. Facing your demons could certainly mean your own issues. In a since, demons are the root of horrible memories and experiences. God shows us what we need in the Bible. What you feel from the passage is what you need to learn. Keep an open heart and open mind and pray over what you learn. If you get confused, keep asking questions. God gave us a mind to use. Never let anyone tell you that you are wrong for asking a question.

Not likely since they usually are shown affecting someone in a negative way. The possessed man wasn't just tortured with an idea or something he conjured up in his head.

Unfortunately I've had my share of dealing with demons and anyone like me can attest to the fact that they are VERY real. They are not a figment of your imagination.

I like that you are thinking about it though. I am a huge advocate of the Bible but I think that each person needs to study it for him/herself and find the truths for him/herself and not solely rely on other people's interpretations of it.

Unfortunately, if you say part of the Bible is figurative or allegorical, then any of the Bible could be considered that way, and the whole thing is up to total and complete interpetation.

No, they are real.

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Ephesians 6:12
