Schwinn is fine. They are no longer an American company though. They were bought by the Japanese several years ago, and they are actually making a bit of a comeback. They had a rough go of it several years ago and were really in trouble. They are making some quality bikes now and are trying to win back their reputation. At the moment, they generally offer a lot of value. They may not have the big name behind them but they are working their way back in.

Keep in mind that with most bikes, the actual bike company (Schwinn, Trek, Specialized, whatever) does very little of the manufacturing of the bike and it's components. The frame is usually the only component that is actually made by the company that has it's label on the bike. Even then many times the frame is outsourced to a company in Taiwan. If your bike frame is aluminum, chances are it was made in Taiwan.

For the bike you are looking at, I'd say don't worry. Schwinn is perfectly fine, especially for less than $80.

It's really not a very good brand. Ever since they went mass market an into the big box stores, they have really gone downhill. Will it be better than your Huffy, yes. Is it a good bike, no. Go to a bike shop and look at bikes from Trek, Giant, or Specialized.

What are your needs? If you are just riding occassionally and for short distances, a Schwinn will suit you fine. If you are wanting to do an MS150, a Schwinn....well, not so much.

It is impossible to recommend without knowing how you will use your bike.

If it's sold at Walmart, it's junk....Schwinn isn't the company it was in the 1960's. They still do make quality bikes, but you won't find one under $700+...
