If the Christians want a Christian Nation, and everything follows the bible, does that mean I'll get up to four wives and have slave's at my command, and if not, then why brother trying for a Christian Nation?

To Miriam;
It's either the whole bible, or your not really a follower of christ if you pick and choose what to believe and not to believe in.

To elmjunburke;
Well you can always gag them, but isn't that heaven, to have the perfect women or virgins they'll never speak until spoken to?

If it's in the bible, and it's a verse, then it is not out of context, and it may not have endorsed it, but it does allow it.

To Aurum;
OT and NT, would you really be a follower of christ if you pick and choose what to believe and not to believe in? Yes some of it was cultural, but what would happen if the south won the civil war in the U.S, and they were Christians of the bible belt states, I would guess that women would have no rights as far as the bible law is concerned, and the slaves would still be slaves because the bible does allow it.

What you are saying makes sense, but there is one little problem with that. Most of the quirks and weird stuff of the Bible; like four wives and owning slaves; was cultural. And also if you read the new testament it gives of very clear guidelines about what you can and can't do. The old testament was written by spirit-filled men who was writing down what God told them to, to keep His nation somewhat holy until He saw fit to send His Son to earth to give the ultimate guidelines. And I don't think in a Christian Nation there would be slaves (the old testament were Jews), simply because of Jesus command to 'Love you neighbour as yourself'

Classic Theist responses. Out of context. How can quoting an entire verse be out of context. If you believe one verse, why is another, 'well that was the custom back then'? Why is it not all the custom back then?
Perhaps because it really is just a bunch of dusty, bronze age folk tales after all.

The bible has never endorsed slaves or more than one wife. Easy to take one verse out of context. A little more study will open your eyes.

Not all Christians want a Christian nation. Some of us are big fans of freedom of religion, and believe people should be allowed to worship and believe however they want, even if it goes against what we believe.

It's much better to be a Muzzle-em and have seventy-two young beautiful virgins. No, on second thought, who would want seventy-two yapping, bitching,complaining, demanding women to put up with - - - and to provide for ?

No, it mean there'll be another Inquisition while they all bicker over who's the greater believer. Hopefully they'd wipe themselves out.
