(for that matter it will heat the air too slightly in a non enclosed space it is just that the heat won't build up - the cooling effect of fans is not due to air temperature but the circulating air causing evaporation of moisture on the skin and carrying heat away from the body)

First of all, there isn't a single fan on this planet that actually cools the air around it. Fans work on the principal of moving air over your skin causing the sweat to evaporate and pull heat away from your skin. This being said, a fan kept in a small room with no external air flow would end up raising the over all temperature of the room because the heat produced by the fan motor would have nowhere to go.

It will heat it.

Basic thermodynamics say a heat source (and a fan does generate heat) in a confined space will cause the temperature to increase if the heat has nowhere else to go.

This is the same principle as to why opening the refrigerator door won't cool off the room it's in. The room in question contains both the heating and cooling elements. And since it isn't 100% efficient, more energy is flowing in than out. So the temp goes up.

If the "closed place" is a normal room in a house, it will add the heat from the fan motor to the room, but... if the temperature outside the "closed" room is cooler the fan will cause the room to cool faster than not having it blow, because it will increase the rate at which convective currents move heat from the room through the walls.

Fans don't heat or cool air. They move it. That being said, if you ran a fan in a perfectly insulated closed up space, the temperature within the space would go up because there was a net energy flow into the space.

You are pumping energy into an otherwise cloced system. The system heats. You cannot overall cool your kitchen by opening your refrigerator and letting it run. The hot exhaust must be dumped externally (an air conditioner).

It performs work against the air & so will heat it, although if you were there, it would cool you my evaporating moisture on your skin.

The electric motor itself creates heat, so it would slowly get hotter. If not heat was produced, the temp would stay the same.

It will not heat nor cool the air appreciably, simply cause convection which will average the temperatures in the room.
