we are looking for a minister to marry us at our informal wedding, at my moms home. we found a woman with a reasonable price. and she seemed very nice when i spoke with her on the phone. i don't think i have a problem with a woman marring us. actually, i like the nontraditional idea. it just seems alittle odd. i normally think of a man preforming the ceremony. what are your thoughts?

I think a woman can do every bit as good a job as a man can, maybe even better. Since women are more sensitive, they may be willing to take the time to get to know you better or work with you to customize the ceremony, and pay better attention to detail. If you are comfortable with her, go for it. I know many ministers that are women and I would guess most of them would do a better job that the men would.

I have no problem with it. My roommate from college is an ordained minister and I want her to perform my wedding. Traditionally men did the ceremonies, but keep in mind that for a long time women weren't allowed to even be ministers. That's why we tend to have that picture in our heads.

A female minister will be marrying us in August. In fact most of the officiants I found locally and in my original wedding destination were women...

I just went to a wedding where the minister was a woman. (episcopal church) It was a beautiful ceremony. I also went to a non denominational one and that one was nice too with a woman officiant.

I don't think it odd at all. I have been to many weddings where the officiants were women . . . as well as many churches where the ministers were women.

Stand up for your gender . . . and hire the woman!

Yep, my husband and I were married by a woman. My daughter will be married by a woman.

It's exceptionally common these days, not odd in the slightest.

Honestly, in planning my daughter's wedding, she had trouble finding male officiants.

i had a byfrnd in hs who's mom was a minister. she officiated her sons wedding.
i don't think there is anything wrong with it.
traditionaly women weren't able to become ministers or hold that sort of rank in the church so that's probly why you would think of men over women officiants.
go ahead with her if you like her... and congrats !!

My sister had a female pastor. It was the best service I ever attended. My cousin (male) ended up using her for his wedding 3 years later. It was great!

There are lots of female ministers, jps, and marriage commissioners, so it's not really nontraditional.
For our wedding we had three Ukrainian Catholic priests marry us - my husband's brother, and two of our friends - all three very male!

My daughter had one for her informal (at the park) wedding and it went great. I like seeing women get out in new areas.
