Send them all home. Start fining every business that hires them and fine them too, make the fines go higher and higher until they have to go home. No more free healthcare or welfare spending on them, and no amnesty. We need to start defending our borders or the overpopulation of the world is all going to flooding our shores.

Its economic growth in Mexico will slow down immigration, and deportation never worked. The way to appoach immigration problem is if 500,000 want to retire in Mexico, or work, we in return will give 500,000 people born in Mexico the oppounity to work. Still, conditions like tax reform in both countries is desperately because tax evasion is becoming worse in the last 20 years in all countries in the world that is draining resources for educating the population and building schools, roads, ultities. Mexico economy does not need to be wealthy as Untied States, but a income level similar to the state of Mississippi in the next 30 years would reduce a lot of immigration.

They need to make changes. Many people say make the process harder, raise the fines, etc. In reality none of this will work.. it will for some time, but give it a few years and people will begin to forget about it and find something else that also needs to be fixed....HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
Obviously there is too much beuracracy in the federal government to get anything done. They are the ones in control of customs, but local governments are the ones that could have the largest impact, but the only problem is that isn't their job. Some are already taking on that responsibility and they will realize that it going to increase their spending, the state will realize it too, and will probably seek the Federal government, in which case they will not be given the aid they need, and will be broke, like schools, or Medicare and Medicaid
If the Fed Gov stay in control, they will need to use the same laws or make them easier... I know I know... Many people don't like that idea, but if we can't enforce the laws we have now, how in the world are going to enforce stricter ones? It does not make any sense. You can't solve a problem thinking the same you did as when it started.. (or something like that)- Albert Einstein.

Dealing with a problem that truly wasn't a problem until some one pointed out that one existed. Which seems to be a common truth here in the U.S., when really there are worse unsolved ones such as missing persons that have been missing year after year. And most citizens could care less as it is obvious that no one pays attention to the hundreds of missing children . Which by now may already be adults or dead!
When do people ever pay attention to posters/milk cartons to view such innocent kids profiles?! And how concerned are Americans and agencies about locating all the most wanted top 10-FBI list, and missing children to have not yet succeeded?
But oh well....

I think that, due to the influence of big-business and corrupt public officials, it is a real problem (just ask those who live with the greatest concentrations of illegals), but since the plan is to merge the economies of the Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, there is no real effort, to correct the situation. A token effort to beef-up the U.S.-Mexican border has been made, but it's mere posturing.
What can and should be done, of course, is to round up all illegals and deport them. It's a relatively simple solution (in spite of the propaganda from official news sources), but with the Mexican president and American traitors in charge, it isn't about to happen.

There will be no answer as long as we keep exploiting those workers they will keep coming because the exchange rate for dollars in their country is high. This means they can work here for under minnimun wage and continue to encourage others to come. A good thing to do would be find those who commit crimes and punish them, then legalize those who have totally assimilated to US culture I mean pay taxes, speak English, know the law and have absolutely no criminal record. Make them earn their legalization don't just give it away as that would encourage more immigration as it did in 86.

Make it a felony to employ illegals. Have the Border Patrol carry guns and actually take action if someone hops a fence. Build a wall too high to jump and deport all illegal immigrants that don't speak english.

Secure the borders is a big part, but it can't be the sole part.
Stop the employment of illegal aliens, by increasing the penalties for it to the point it makes hiring illegal aliens instead of citizens or legal immigrants cost-prohibitive.
Eliminate all loopholes that allow illegal aliens to obtain any form of welfare benefits, housing aid, free medical care (unless it is an eminently life-threatening situation) and free education. Repeal anchor baby laws. Remove all incentives to come here illegally. Many will self-deport.
Increase manpower and efforts to detain and deport illegal aliens. It may take time but it should be done.
There should be a very limited window to allow illegal aliens to stay and be granted temporary status, if they turn themselves in. First an in-depth background check should be done. Any criminal alien should be automatically barred from such an opportunity. (Those who have recrossed border after deportation, used stolen identity or other paper crimes, those who have committed vehicular homicide, been convicted of 2 or more DUI offenses, drug dealing, any domestic abuse, as well as violent offenders and gang members should be barred as well as any who harbor criminal aliens.) Any adult illegal alien who has been in the country for many years should not be given any special consideration, they have had ample time to become aware of our laws and attempt to gain legal status. Teenage children who have lived most of their lives in the US, should be given the opportunity to apply for status. However, they should not be given any special opportunities at the expense of American children, ie Dream Act. There should a limit of 2 million on the change from legal to temporary status. After achieving the temporary status, the person should have to meet the same qualifications of any legal immigrant to the US and not receive any consideration that exceeds those for legal immigrants nor any benefits not allowed for legal immigrants. They should not get any benefit for the time already here. They should not qualify for SS retirement unless they work a minimum of 25 years paying towards it.
These ideas may seem harsh, but past leniency has only increased the flow of illegal aliens into this country. We cannot afford to allow everyone who wants to come here entry. We also need to demand cooperation from the home nations of the illegal aliens, to reduce those numbers. The UN needs to apply pressure to those nations as well. Face it, for some nations, it is easier to export their populace and fund their economy on the money the illegal aliens send back than to effect any positive change. That must stop. We cannot be the world's welfare state. Illegal aliens have benefited from coming here, their employers have saved money, but this has been at the expense of the lower and middle classes, as well as overwhelming education and health systems, especially in border states.
Footnote: Make employers PROVE they cannot hire Americans at a decent wage, then base the number of temporary workers needed on the results.

For starters, how about we stop calling it a problem? It has never been a problem.....every country in the world, including some African nations, have illegal immigrants.

My position is arrived at after much thought, reading, listening to all sides on this issue. Please read all of it before you get ready to respond.
What I hear from immigrants south of the border is that the application process is very long, difficult, and opaque (you can't easily find out where your application is in the system, or learn about the process).
I think we need to establish application or visa offices in more locations, make the process more transparent, streamline it.
But we also have to make it clear we will not tolerate illegal immigration, violations of our borders and laws, and the under-cutting of our wages. WE need to be tough on crime, illegal border crossings, and other violations of immigration law.

Have all illegal immigrants serve 4 years in the military, and patrol the country's borders for illegals trying to cross. Only then should they be given an opportunity for citizenship.
