I'm building my own TV stand for my home entertainment center and I need to know how far away I need to keep my sub-woofer away from the rest of the electronics.

Unless your TV uses CRT technology, it shouldn't matter. The sub's powerful magnet will definitely affect a CRT, but won't affect an LCD or plasma display.

My sub distorts my CRT RPTV when it's within about 3 feet of it.

Hi there .I don't think it matters where the Sub. goes in relation to the other equipment. What is more important is to place the Sub where it will give you the best sound. Don't put it in a corner as it may sound boomy.Because the sub is an extension of your two front stereo speakers, the best place to put it is in the centre of the room down near your two front speakers half way between them or slightly in front. Don't put them up the back behind you as the balance will not be right.
