I don't know about you guys but I think that NASCAR is going a little overboard by docking a driver's points when caught "cheating". I agree with fining them and making them feel it in their wallets but stripping a driver of points that they worked hard to earn and obviously didn't obtain by cheating as they passed the inspections. I don't know maybe it's just me but I think it's crossing the line just a bit when they fine a driver thousands of dollars, dock him points, and then on top of that either a) make him start in the back of the pack or b) disqualify them and not allow them to participate at all. What do you think?

The point I'm trying to make though is why take away points that they have earned in previous races that they obviously didn't cheat for, you're taking points away from them by making them start in the back or disqualifying them from the race all together. I do agree that the money isn't really a big issue with seasoned drivers. Just for the record, I am not a fan or Gordon, Johnson, Jr., or Hamlin.

I totaly agree with you 210% percent!!!!!!!!!!
They are going to far with the drivers points!!!!
To lose what they worked hard for is unfair!!!
They should start in the back or the pack or just fine them!!!
Have a nice day!!!! (:

I'm not sure but this still sounds like someone is belly aching about the Gordon, Johnson penalty, well, what I have to say I am going to include Jr. These 3 drivers got screwed. None of these drivers had anything to do with what NASCAR busted the team for.
And if NASCAR want to make them start in the back or disqualify them for that race they can do it. NASCAR has just started doing this UN justified fines for something drivers didn't do. They have lost there mind and are going to this dumb move when ever there dictator *** wants too..
You dock a driver points or fine him or her for fighting, retaliation or throwing something out of there car to cause a caution or throw something at another driver. NOT FOR SOMETHING A CREW CHIEF DOES.
With something like this you should go after the crew chief and the team owner. A big healthy fine and a large cut in owners points will get there attention.
You know I was just thinking maybe some of these sponsors might want to ask NASCAR just how are they coming up with this type of fine and maybe if they want to keep acting like a bunch of mad men they are not going to finance any teams anymore because they don't want there products related to a bunch of crazies. I don't it.

For the top end drivers the money doesn't matter the fines that NASCAR enforce are paid into the drivers fund. That money is paid back to the top drivers at the end of the year as bonuses. Sure Micheal Waltrip isn't going to see any of that but the 8, 24, and 48 are going to see some of their money coming back.

Points are the only way to make the teams take notice, but since those penalties are wipped out with the chase format reseting points with ten to go they really don't mean anything either.

Ten percent of pre-chase penalties should be applied to the drivers point standing at the ten races to go point.

I think that the point penalties, why they are consistent, need to be given in a way that its not the same penalty for everyone. I mean Jr. had a wing bracket error, so that penalty should be less severe then Kurt Busch's temporary insanity... Then again Kurt's should be more then Gordon and Johnson's fender incident since, it was clearly not in the COT rulebook. I think that points shouldnt be as severe and the money, as the drivers earn those points, and they were legal, and yet they make lots of money so that isnt as important as the points are....

I don't feel that way. Cheating is like a sin. You ask me, the whole team should be suspended a couple weeks. But they usually aren't, so they take away those points. NASCAR is working to apply the same penalties to all COT violation and we are gonna to see more and more of this as cars fail inspections. NASCAR is trying to create a set of penalties and then stick to it. Now repeat offensives will probably be treated more severe. So, like if the 8, 24, or 48 teams fail another inspection in the near future, or next year, their treatment will be more severe. NASCAR is working to set this penalties in stone and make them stick. It's not going to change or become any less. Welcome to the real world of NASCAR racing, this is the new rules.

Not allowing them to race is to big a punishment. Starting from the back is hard but good teams over come it (source Sanoma last week). Money, the top drivers make over 2 million a year in RACE earning not counting sponership deals. Points thats were it hurts. If you no cheating could take your from in the case to out of it (Jr this year) you will not cheat. Taking points away is the only fair punishment because it takes away what drivers seek so much.

My God. Dan says "strikes me as kicking a club on a similar time as its down.". spectacular. and then he says Rangers have been cheating, which has been proved to no longer be the case. Mindflux says " wheres the consistency", Rangers have been docked factors via the SPL, it particularly is the SFL, completely distinctive. this could be a uncommon Q via Caine (there isn't any point out of Rangers) however the different morons will quickly turn it right into a Rangers Q. Dan, you insist you do no longer desire to work out a club kicked while it is down, yet you wanted Rangers kicked into oblivion. i'm afraid you won't be in a position to have it the two procedures, previous bean.

It is being discussed that if attempted cheating continues, they will begin suspending the DRIVER to get the point across. Obviously fines won't work.

I think the loss of points is one thing that will definitely get the driver's attention. No one wants to lose the points they have worked for, I think it is harder on them then simply writing a check.

Sit them out a race or two. That will get the picture across. $100,000 is allot to us, but for them it is pocket change. There are too many teams going home each week to let CHEATERS race. If you want monetary fines to work then they need to be about $1,000,000 that would get their attention.

What if their so called hard earned points were dirty? What if they did cheat before and just didn't get caught? The fines and penalties are clearly consistent.
