I never heard this. However, the Egyptians, givers of monotheism and the word amen, really like cats.

I am commanded by my owner, Six-Dinner Sid (ginger unneutered Tom) to say:

Since the only true God is the great big tomcat in the sky who made us all in His image, who else would he ask to guard the big hunting run beyond the sunset?

We shall all meet there, some day. One or two of our favoured human pets will be allowed in to put down enticing food and drink, but the rest of you, I am afraid, will go where the DOGS go.

By the way, of course mice will be allowed in. It's meant to be cat heaven.

this is an Egyptian belief, the creature that represents Sehkmet, egyptian goddess of power and grace, is the cat. And to enter into HER realm you would pass the cats at the gate, if you were not worthy, the cats shredded you with their claws.

My guess would be Egyptian mythology; cats (Bast) are revered, so this makes some sense.

Of course, another poster may be correct - from cats themselves!
