Celiac Sprue is hereditary. Has your son had the complete blood tests for this? Blood relatives all need to be checked when someone in their family has been diagnosed with celiac disease. This disease can be very life threatening and cause extreme complications in children as well as adults. Make your doctor test him for it. It will save him a lot of pain through his life if you find out now. I have had it since I was a baby and I just now found out what has been wrong with me and I am 22. I probably cannot have children now because of the length of time that has passed without being diagnosed.
Celiac disease symptoms can also come and go. There might be times where you will feel great and then other times where you are just down right sick. Even though there might not be symptoms the instestines are still being damaged.
Also, celiac disease is not an allergy. It is an autoimmune disorder. Your body sees wheat gluten as the enemy and starts to destroy itself. Allergy tests will not show celiac disease. The only way to know for sure is first the blood tests, and then finally a biopsy.
From my experience doctors do not know much about this disease. I have been called a hyperchodriac and I have been told that I just need to eat healthier. Doctors will try to diagnose celiac as IBS, thyroid issues, anoerxia, chronic constipation, anemia....they will find all the symptoms, but for some reason they don't seem to look for celiac. I recommend that you go online and type in celiac disease, look up the symptoms...do your homework to be better prepared to talk with the doctors.
I wish you all the luck, and if your son does have it. I recommend joining a support group in your area. It helps.

It definitely sounds like a malabsorption condition caused by an intolerance to gluten. The mucous is a big clue for malabsorption, and the child's father has a recorded of a genetic condition that explains what could cause it to happen.
An allergy test and an intolerance test are completely different and check different chemicals. You can be negative on one but not the other, yet they are easy to confuse or lump into the same category. Most people with Celiac's have few or no symptoms, or their symptoms are confused with anxiety, anti-social personality disorder, depression, irritable bowel syndrome, or hypochondria. His father may not feel any effects of it, but its a life-long condition that doesn't go away and gets passed on genetically.
It is also possible for soy, corn, and dairy to cause similar intestinal entereopothy. It might just be a big coincidence and there's some completely unrelated issue, but they usually check those first and Celiac's last (if ever).

It's time to take the child to the Doctor...waiting even this long ( 5 days ) seems a little careless when there is vomiting and diarrhea, the child can be come very dehydrated, and if not seen by a Doctor can worsen....forget trying to get an answer on yahoo for this hurry, and get an answer from a certified doctor.

Hi. First off if his father has celiac, then it is highlylikely your son does to. Celiac is extrmely genetically predipsoed and all his symtpoms sound like CD. Blood testing on him may prove to be inconclusive bc of his age. I would highly suggest seeing a GI doc and asking for genetic testing to see if he carries the genes for Celiac. If he carries the genes for Celiac, it is highly likely he will one day have it triggered if it's not already. If he has Celiac he'll need to be on a gluten free diet. His father should be too!! For life!!
Feel free to email me for more info.

I won't repeat what you stated but, it's hard to believe the hospital didn't find anything wrong.
What did your doctor have to say?
Get your son to a pediatrician right now. He's going to start dehydrating if he hasn't already. Give him pediolyte for now to replace his liquids and get him to a doctor, a different one and tell them what the hospital said.
Something is wrong here, very wrong.

My baby got diarrhea when I ran out of Lactaid (lactose-free milk) and started drinking regular milk. Turns out I'm not the only one who is lactose intolerant! It cleared up when I stopped drinking the regular milk. (I also have to avoid cheese now.) So, it could be something your eating. My baby also gets a tummy-ache when I eat spicy (hot) food. Could be teething, but maybe it would help to examine your diet?

i'd take him to a different hospital this time. what did his personal doctor have to say about it all. this is not normal for anybody of any age. if you have a hospital close at hand that deal only with children that's where i would take him. they are much better for children than a regular hospital would be.
