I am planning to take Melatonin due to my insomnia problem, but I was worried if it will affect to the med I am taking, the Seroquel.

The problem starts from here; I have been trying to get off of the Seroquel for some time, but when I stop taking the Seroquel, I can not sleep.

I am having the insomnia anyway while taking the Seroquel.

Do you think, it wiil be more difficult to quit the Seroquel if I begin taking the Melatonin?

Please help me on this.

Thanks

I was once to on Seriquel. When I took the med and still had trouble sleeping I thought I needed something else so I made a Dr's appointment. They gave me an appointment for a week away so I went out of town for the weekend and accidental forgot the med. So after a few nights without it i came home and once again took it. I then realized it was the Seriquel that was making me not sleep. It made me feel kind of like wired up. I would wake up a few times a night and fidgeted all the time. So I stopped the med and got the Dr to just put me on Ambien that works awsome!!!! Try talking to your Dr about it!! Hope this helps!!

First off, you should definitely ask your doctor, I'm not sure what melatonin is generally used for, besides insomnia. I am currently taking Seroquel as well, but it's for depression and anxiety, but I know that if I forget to take it, I don't sleep well at all. Your doc should have mentioned whether or not it will affect the Seroquel. Even try looking it up on the net to see the side effects or if there are any warnings. Good luck!

here is the answer. I also emailed you this answer. please rate me good.

This is a letter that one of my patients wrote me on mail.

After the terrifying effects of Seroquel - I feel the need to inform others.
In December of 2004 I was under alot of stress from work. I went two weeks without sleep. I went to the doctor and he perscribed 300 milagrams of Seroquel. It did help me sleep. Only I could sleep 24 hours a day! It took away my personality. My personality turned aggressive. I couldn't stop eating and I gained 35 pounds in 10 months. I craved sweets and fast food like a madman. I started to hear voices - I never heard them before Seroquel. Then I started getting suicidal. I decided to wean myself off Seroquel in February of 2006. It was like death. The insomnia came back as a rebound effect. When I got completely off the Seroquel in May of 2006 I started breaking out in a weird itching all over my body periodically. For one week all my bowel stools were pitch black. Before Seroquel I used to be an avid exerciser. Now I can't exercise for more than 10 minutes with out being in bed with chronic body aches for a week. My immune system is very fragile too. I have not been able to lose the weight yet. And I get very tired mentally from little things.
I have since found out that melatonin works great for insomnia. You just have to take it for 2 weeks before it starts to work.

You want off the Seroquel why? Seroquel is an antipsychotic; there's a good reason you are on it, surely. It is never a good idea to wean yourself off a medication without medical supervision; go back to your doc and do it right. I take 425 mg. every evening, otherwise, I can't sleep, but it's because of the agitation that comes from mania. I'd much rather use the Seroquel and be able to sleep and prevent any possibility of becoming manic and/or psychotic.

Melatonin has no effect on me and does not work for all people.
Have your MD prescribe some Ambien until you get off the Seroquel.

What should I avoid while taking Seroquel?

Avoid drinking alcohol. It can worsen the side effects of Seroquel.
Seroquel may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert. Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Get up slowly and steady yourself to prevent a fall.
Avoid becoming overheated or dehydrated during exercise and in hot weather. You may be more prone to heat stroke.
