So is my dog. They are just to afraid because most dogs are afraid of exploding things && they always want to prrotect you but they think this is a thing that is trying to hurt you but he simplie thinks that they will hurt your dog or you.

My aussie is too! She seems to get worse each year :(

This year I'm using a herbal pet mixture I got from the pet store it has Valerian in it. Its helping a little bit.

I read though that you can get a vet to prescribe a Valium type medication as well.

I also just read about purchasing a special CD with fireworks on it and next year a few months before the 4th you start playing the CD each night really quiet and work your way up slowly so that they get used to the sound.

But for this year you could try the herbal remedy or maybe a vet could get you a prescription tomorrow. Keep her inside and find a place she feels safe, maybe a basement where its quieter or a bedroom in the back corner of the house. I read that it helps to turn on the TV and radio and turn them up a bit to help mask the noise. I plan to do this tomorrow night for my aussie.

Next year though I'm considering finding her a doggy vacation out in the country somewhere for a week where its quiet!

Good Luck!

Wel, dogs are like little kids and there since of hearing is way better than ours. they also can feel the vibrations on the ground depending on how close the boom is. They are quiet smaller than an adult so you could amigine being 2 ft tall and hearing a bang!!

my dog is afraid lightning i haven't found a way to stop him from running to my rom and getting under my pillows.

when your dog acts like that just comfort it and talk to it as if it were a human so it can be more confortable!

This is not hard to understand! A dog's hearing is many times that of us humans. The fireworks hurt their ears. I wish those with animals would get this!! Animals need to be taken inside when fireworks are being shot off in the nearby area, for their safety and state of mind. This is not a "habit" to break a dog from. It is scairy for them. Dogs get hurt and break loose trying to get away from the noises.

If someone shot a gun off near you then you'd jump too. Be more thoughtful of your pet and take inside during the fireworks of 4th of July time. This is not bad behaviour but fear. You will need to be around to calm your dog and reasure her when all the noise is going on around your neighborhood. She will probably hide under bed, closet, etc out of fear and the painful sounds she is hearing.

Anamals tend to be afraid of lound noises. My moms dog is 14 and she is still afraid of fireworks. Not sure there is a nice way to break them of the habbit you could make them sick if you force them. I am sorry she pooped in side but that is another trate some dogs have when they get scared.

I don't think there is a way to break the habit but on fireworks night we have put the dog in the basement and played a radio loudly while the fireworks was going on.l

I had this problem with one of my female Goldens and I was told by a friend to get some Lavender Oil and just rub a tiny spot on the bridge of her nose, being very careful not to let it go anywhere near her eyes. I tried it and it actually worked. She stopped shivering and panting almost immediately lay down at my feet and within minutes was asleep.

Worth a try!

Call your vet they can prescribe a tranquilizer for them! It helps them during all of the chaos of the 4th! Also do not leave her outside she may get out and get hurt. Keep her indoors and have the TV on or the radio with some soft music. That will help drown out all of the noise!

Hi, go to your local health food store and get something called Rescue remedy. It has chamomille and valerian, has no bad side effects and really works. I give it to my dog when I see that she is getting anxious, and in about 10 min, she is calm as can be. (my vet reccomended it, and just last week Martha Stewart talked about how her vet reccomended it as well)

You can get it at the vitamin shoppe or GNC (there's one of these stores almost everywhere, so you can pick it up before the 4th).

Good luck!
