No, it is not normal behavior in goldfish. Normally this behavior is associated with white mice looking for a question that they know the answer to is 42.

If he starts demanding virginal sacrifices; then that is when you should begin to worry. Course you could place another tank close his; with an Oscar fish in it. And then let your goldfish see who is really the boss.

hm, sometimes i see my former goldfish becomes interested with its reflection on the tank wall. but after quite some time it learns that the reflection is not real and so will not do it. but anyways, goldfish are peaceful creatures and will not be harming others. the chasing is not deadly and its just playing
