She re-designs old wedding dresses as a second job and turns them into beautiful customized dresses for brides. Would this book be a good gift? http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&EAN=9780935278057&itm=1 along with a book on veils (which she also makes) http://product.half.ebay.com/_W0QQprZ2314016QQcpidZ1117418302

well the dress books seems to be pointers of how to design dresses. The dresses she designs already are from all decades. I've seen her make beautiful dresses out of early 1990's nightmares. She'e even taken dresses from the 60s and 70s and made them modern.

i'd say those are very thoughtful and it shows that you know the woman. i don't know my MIL that well and we've been together almost 10 years! (almost 4 married, rest dating) Hell I still buy her vague things like a perfume or something! Thats nice of you

It's a sweet thought, but perhaps something a bit basic considering what she does as a business. That book is intended for the amateur seamstress who has never attempted bridalwear before, and has been generally available for literally decades.
The idea of giving her something connected to making wedding clothes is lovely, though. Perhaps a rummage at your local bookstore or through the Amazon listings will turn up a book on wedding gowns through the ages. Something that's more of an historical overview of wedding gowns would probably be more useful to her than a basic book on making them.
I believe there's a new book coming out on Princess Diana's wedding gown. You might do a search on that and see if that looks like something your soon to be MIL would like.
I think you're on the right track to make your future MIL happy. Just go a bit further down the path.

I like the idea of getting her books on dresses/veils. It shows that you've put some thought into her interests.
But I noticed that the dress book you linked was published in 1995. Those are pretty out-dated dress styles. You may want to find one that was published more recently.

Certainly a thoughtful idea. Perhaps you could also include an antique book on sewing, which would bring the old and new together again in your gift.

Seems impersonal, I won't give her something about her "work", it should be about your wedding. (I too am a steam-stress on the side.)
How about this?

Love that frame, would make a wonderful gift for her to frame your pictures in.
And Sorry Dear, You were incorrect about the wording of the date on my invite. How I did it is the "Proper" way, little old fashion sounding I guess but it's the traditional way to write a wedding date and time.

You don't have to get her anything. It's your wedding she is suppose to be catering to your needs but if you want to get her a gift. I think the book is ok.

It seems silly to give her books about WORK, just not appropriate. How about a spa basket or something?
