"you name your emotions, you can tame them, according to new research that suggests why meditation works. "

"Brain scans show that putting negative emotions into words calms the brain's emotion center. That could explain meditation’s purported emotional benefits, because people who meditate often label their negative emotions in an effort to “let them go.” "

In today's Yahoo's Home page the above information has appeared.---What are your comments?

In meditation ,we tell that "let the negative thoughts go from me"-it is what the report says and it is what we do.

So calming down has been proven to calm people down? Absolutely amazing. Maybe this is proof that God exists?

Hmm .. I don't know what other people you have been talking to, but the meditation I practiced was simply focused on the mundane. If nothing remotely interesting happened, that was a GOOD thing! Meditation, for me, was a way to see life. And life, to paraphrase Charlotte Beck, is nothing special. Visions? Altered states? What do you think drugs are for? If that is what you seek, I suggest you investigate shamanism. For such experiences are available, it's just that most need assistance beyond simply meditating. Good luck in your journey. Travel well. .

This is true. It really works. The best way to meditate I think is to observe your mind and not let words (whatever language you speak) form in your mind. If they do that is ok but try to remain for as long as you can without using words. All the gods and religions in the world are false(projections of the mind). The only reality is your true self or atma. As long as you let your mind control you and lead you, you will always be in sorrow irrespective of which religion you put your faith in. The only God I trust is the self within me. There is no other reality. Another false idea people have is that they do the thinking. You don't think but the thoughts that arise in your mind give you that impression. Just watch your mind and see what happens. Thoughts will keep coming like waves washing the shore. You have no say in what you think. Lustful thoughts, hate thooughts, loving thoughts, fearful thoughts. It is a procession that never stops. Just be a witness.

And what kind of meditation are you talking about. For the only kind, I trust as working, is meditating on the Word of God.

Naming your emotions is a technique or exercise...not really meditation.

Before the research, they should define what meditation is first. There are many disagreements regarding this.

In true meditation, you do not do anything. So by definition, naming your emotions is not meditation because you are doing something.
