how to recognize anorexia:
-eating tiny portions, refuse to eat and deny they are hungry
-show abnormal weight loss - as much as 15% or more of body weight - a large weigh loss in short time
-act hyperactive, depressed, moody or insecure
-have an intense fear of being fat
-see themselves as fat, wanting to lose more weight, even if they are tiny
-exercise excessively and compulsively
-suffer from constipation or irregular menstrual periods
-develop fine, downy hair on their arms and face
-complain of nausea or bloating after eating normal amounts of food
-binge-eat, then purge, perhaps by vomiting or using laxatives or diuretics
if you suspect a friend has anorexia dont wait until a severe weight problem or a serious medical problem proves you are right - speak to the person about your concerns, talk to his/her family, friends, social workers, school nurses etc.
the best treatment combines medical, psychological and nutrition counseling.

How old is your friend? I am 35 and have had food issues since high school. Maybe read my questions and see if any of it sounds familiar. I don't even know if I have anorexia, but I've been told I have all of the signs. I can tell you this is a very bad cycle and can last a lifetime. It can start out very innocently and get dangerous fast. The problem is even when you tell her the danger, and she probable already knows, she will not stop once it gets to be a disorder without help. Be supportive and don't lecture(you do not want her to start hiding it from you). It is completely mental, judgment gets in paired. Talk to your mom or an adult about it, because just to let you know how serious it is, I'm sitting here typing this, to try help you help her early, and I myself have not eaten in over 30 days. Mostly, and I can not stress this enough, support...support...support!! It would have made all the difference in the world for me. Good luck & keep us posted.

she may not really suffer from anorexia.she juz want to lose pounds and keep herself fit as she is counting calories even all the time.

if u want to help her,u can tell her that only counting calories every day is not a good method to lose weight .u can encourage her to consume less carbohydrates, like potato, and eat more vegetables and fruit.

if she want to lose pound,it is reasonable to eat a few bit at dinner, but she should eat even more vegetables instead.otherwise, she may suffer from stomach ,it is not good for her health.

btw, if she eat not enough and feel hungry at night, drinking some milk is a good policy.

If she is doing this and you are concerned you should talk to your mom about it and see what she thinks. She could talk to your friends parents about your concern. The only way to help is to get other adults involved. If you are over 18 then I would gently tell my friend that I was concerned, give her the facts about why you are concerned and then you have to just let her choose what she's going to do. It is frustrating and sad but 'pushing' someone with an eating disorder can actually make it worse.

Usually a psychiatrist is the only person who can diagnose this problem. If she is being dangerous about dieting, it may be that she should see a nutritionist instead.

Yes you should.
encourage her too eat tasty fruits. and just suggest tasty but healthy foods
