It is not cold enough to keep it frozen.
Check to see what the temp is in the freezer. Try turning it down to a lower level and see if that helps.

It could be that your freezer just isn't cold enough to keep the ice cream frozen. I used to live in an apartment where there was a smaller sized fridge. To get to the freezer you had to open up the entire fridge, and the ice cream was always soft. If you turned the freezer up higher it froze everything in the fridge.

Also.....if you have a freezer with an automatic defrost, then the freezer actually turns itself off sometime, and lets itself warm up, to let the ice melt off the walls. Then your ice cream can soften that way, if you get to it before the freezer has gotten back down to cold temps.
That has bugged me for years!!

you may not have the temp set low enough needs to be 0 or lower. also if the freezer is frost free the temp will go up and down. if you take it out in a warm part of the cycle it will be soft.

it doesn't go soft in mine!?!? but some peoples might because you can set your freezer to different temperatures, and so if it is set low enough, it's cold enough to be solid, but not cold enough to stay hard as ice.
hope I could answer your question.

I've read the other answers. The temp. setting is the most likely answer. You don't want it hard as a brick. You'll bend all your spoons!
