(Discloser) 99.% of Police are the best men & women this country has to offer (IMO)
However, my sister marreid a police officer 15 years ago. After years of physical & emotional abuse she filed for divorce, thank God everyone has urged her to. The problem is she has been pulled over by police (his friends) around 20 times in the past 3 Months, she is never cited, they say:saftey check. She has even been pulled over right in front of her work to embarrass her. Then she has to hear a long speech why she should leaven Jim alone (court stuff). My parents still live in this town and went to the police station to complain (100% worthless), when my parents left the station they were pulled over by 3 police cars. They made them stand on the curb in 90 degree weather while they pulled everything out of their car including the spare tire...they said "saftey check", then my 78 year old father put eveything back in the car that they left on the ground (not cited). We don't trust anyone.

One of the reason's of "MANY" she filed for divorce is that her soon-to-be-ex husband was ordered to pay child-support to a 20 year old woman in town last year...for my sister this was the last straw. All of these guy's have wives & girl friends on the side. I did tell my parents to contact the State Police...he said:these people have friends everywhere...we are all afraid what might happen, I live 1200 miles away. I do think the State people need to be involved

I'm a police officer that was married to an abusive physically, cruel emotionally destructive man who is also a police officer. It is a no win situation. In my case he was much older and very respected. I had to leave that state and travel 1500 miles to escape the constant harassment.. I was in a large city and the level of on job and off duty abuse by his friends became intolerable. I cant tell you who can help you in your town and I'm so sorry your parents were also affected by this vendetta. You might try your states attorney general . I wish you much luck..

Haven't you heard that song..."I fought the law and the, law won.." You can't beat the cops. The only option far as I can see is for your family to move out of town. Even if you take them to court and sue for emotional distress or have them charged with harassment, they're just going to keep giving your family grief and they could even get dirty. Picture your family woken up in the middle of the night by a disturbance downstairs, they call the cops and the cops just laugh. It's probably them downstairs anyway. People can be scumbags and those in positions of power especially. If you wonder why I'm bitter it's because I see all this everyday. I truly have lost hope in humanity.

There are people and agencies that oversee police departments. Contact your Attorney General, States Attorney, Governors Office and even your Senator & Congressmen. Don't forget your Mayor as well. After getting a meeting with anyone of them you can then go to the media. Always ask for an in person meeting and keep records, and get notarized statements from any witnesses etc. Trust me once you begin to fight back and file complaints with the departments mentioned you will not be harrassed any more. Sorry you have to be subjected to such nonsense. Don't be afraid and stand up for your rights!!!! Best of luck to you all.

Document everything you can remember to-date, then contact the State Attorney General and file your complaint. It's sad to say but when there is an internal problem like this, you never go to the bully and file a complaint, especially if it's a smaller town where everyone knows everyone else.
And if I were your sister, I'd be moving to another town about an hour away and get a job there so her ex and his friends can't continue to play their games. I hate it when they use their power to do illegal things like this.
If I were your parents, I'd get a lawyer and sue. Standing in the heat like that could have caused one or both of them to have a stroke. Sounds like some officers need to grow up.
Good luck to you folks. Hope you can set them straight and clean house.

First of all, document everything you have said here. Be sure to include dates and times if possible. Your sister needs to get a recorder and when she is pulled over, she should record the conversation. This evidence should be taken to an attorney who will contact the proper authorities. I know this does happen. My niece went through this to a smaller degree when she divorced her police officer husband. She had to go to a neighboring county to get a lawyer to handle her divorce since none in her own small city wanted to do it for fear of retribution from the police department. I am like you. I believe 90% of police officers are wonderful public servants. They can, however be very difficult to deal with when they close ranks to protect a fellow officer.

Actually, police officers, although they do a very important job, are conditioned to be aggressive and follow orders. This is a tough situation because as Americans we have made the mistake of creating a safety monopoly. You'll need to contact the chief of police or another higher up to avoid contact with anyone who has been contaminated by unreasonable loyalty to Jim. There will hopefully be an internal investigation, but you will most likely not receive any compensation because our legal system protects the enforcers.

Hopefully you've kept careful records of the dates, times, and names of every officer. Go to the District Attorney's office and file a formal complaint. Then go outside your small town and hire a competent lawyer and sue the police department for harassment and unlawful search. A suit of about 10 million should cover it. You won't get that much -- but that should stop the nonsense. Money always rules!

I would go to your nearest "big" city and talk with a lawyer. It sounds like you need professional help. I wouldn't talk with anyone in your town. It sounds like you live in a smaller community, and I grew up in one, and it was exactly the same there; the "good old boys" stick together!
I think that you should have a civil case, but the problem will be finding a lawyer that will help you. Your best chance is outside help.
Best of luck to you.

Document, document, document. Then take your complaint higher than the local police department. Make sure that when you make your complaint you cite actual instances not feelings or emotions. Since it appears it steams from the divorce you need to make sure that it does not sound like it is he said she said banter that all to often takes place during divorces. It is much harder to ignore hard cold documented facts.
Make sure you documentation includes time, date and names. Any witnesses are great too.
Good luck.
