I ask this seriously, this isn't a joke. Are you embarrased when inferior Christians ask Atheists why they celebrate Christmas?

I do not mean this question as a slam on Christians or Christianity,

Regardless of wether you call it as Christians the holiday Christmas, or Jewish people who call that season Hanukkah, or the Romans who called it Festival of Lights,

we all deserve a day for family, family is the greatest gift of all.

I don't know if I'm what could be considered an "intellectual" Christian, but I cringe when I see remarks like that.

I also cringe when I see the "if we evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys" questions, and when my Christian brothers and sisters condemn others ("you're going to HELL!").

I just hope that people realize that not all Christians are like that.

Well, to answer your question, I don't feel anything when one person asks another a question out of genuine curiosity. I don't think there are "inferior" people on the Earth. However, when someone asks a question just to get a rise out of someone else, or as a sort of put down, then it sadens me a bit.

"Christ-mas" should include remembering of "CHRIST". If you want to call it something else because of the absense of "christ" in your celebrating, then it would make sense to call it something else. (Yes, it's true that many holidays began with different roots, however, it's really just important how we celebrate today- you aren't living then, you are living now.) However, I'm sure there are a lot of non-believers who do relax and enjoy this time of year that just happens to be the same time as a bunch of other holidays with religious or historical meaning. I mean, if I was going to celebrate "Martin Luther King Jr. Day" I don't think it is a holiday to honor anything or anyone other than Martin Luther King Jr, right? However, I'm sure a lot of people just use it as a day off from work or school.

I'm embarrassed a lot on this site when Christians ask dumb questions.

I celebrate Christmas to remember the birth of Jesus. Others celebrate it for family.

But, it must be remembered, atheists ask dumb questions to Christians too. Unfortunately, there are a lot more dumb Christians floating around the world.

Many Reformed churches celebrate the Protestant Reformation that began on Oct 31 with Martin Luther nailing up the 95 thesis.

I wouldn't refer to anyone as 'inferior'. People have the right to their beliefs, and providing they respect mine I respect theirs as well.
When someone asks me that question, I remind them that "Christmas" actually has many pagan roots and traditions.

And yes, I do agree with you. Whatever you call it, everyone needs a holiday like Christmas.
