For apartment life, I'd choose a papillion. Fox terriers are great but very high energy dogs and need more exercise than the papillion. If you live in a small place, the papillion will be more content with the small surroundings and not need as much exercise to be happy.

I think the Toy Fox Terrier because Papillons are very athletic breed and are quite fast (hard to catch). And I think that Terriers are soooo cute and most really friendly!!

The Papillon. I'd say both breeds would work well, but all breeds of terriers are genetically programmed to hunt out vermin, whether they are trained to or not. The Papillon is not as energetic--they just have higher grooming needs.

Both of your selections are a higher drive dog and will need lots of play or they could get into mischief. It seems that any of the very long haired dogs such as the Maltese are the type of dogs that play on command and will rest easy most of the time.. why the Maltese is a pillow dog. They will play with the best of them but then just put out a silky cushy pad and this is where they love to lay...
Well, check with your breeders for the *personality* you like as most will test the puppies on day 49 = you won't get the personalization thru a pet store... honest
Good Luck

Both of those breeds have a lot of energy. The terrier really should have a yard to work off some of his steam.
Have you considered a Daschund? I have a Doxie/Beagle mix and I couldn't ask for a better apartment dog. Doxies are laid back and cuddly. They can be kind of stubborn sometimes, but they don't have quite as much bouncy energy as the two breeds you are thinking of.

NOT the terrier - Terriers were bred to hunt and kill they are very active and smart - they will destroy your home if not kept active.
really you would be better off getting an adult rather than a pup of what ever you do get...
also think about not gettting a dog at all - sve your money then buy a house with a yard. Dogs (and kids) do better in houses with yards than apartments.

Personally, I wouldn't own a dog if I lived in an apartment simply because dogs need a lot of room to roam and being in an apartment while the owner is at work etc, leaves the dog a lot of time cooped up in a limited space.

Brittnay,
Have you given any consideration to Pugs or Pomeranians? Both are well-suited to living in an apartment. From my experience, it appears that Poms are "lower-energy" dogs compared to Pugs. Pugs are quite the entertainers though.
Just a thought. Good luck.

Terriers are very energetic. Need lots of exercise. Ever consider a Chihuahua?

in case you delivers an excellent sort of cardio exercising it might desire to artwork...yet once you reside to tell the story suitable of persons, the Weim is often a protecting breed & would bark too plenty for that housing project to artwork. I propose you look at a retired racing greyhounds rather. they're very quiet & laid lower back indoors, fantastic for condos or residences yet nonetheless like to run.
