First anniversary is paper.

So tickets . . . to a sporting event or concert.

A good book.

A gift certificate . . . . to restaurant or store.

So, considering that the first anniversary gift is traditionally paper, this one is pretty easy.

The least expensive of all...write him a poem. Alternately, a book of love poetry can also be very inexpensive, as well as romantic.

A nice photo of yourself to put on his desk at the office is also a good idea.

Not his thing? Consider a pair of tickets to the ball game, or even to your local movie theater, depending on his preferences. If you think he's game, an evening out at the symphony or ballet could also be nice.

Does he enjoy cooking? Maybe a new cookbook by his favorite chef. Is he a fly-fisherman? Perhaps he'd enjoy a book on tying knots.

You might also consider a subscription to his favorite magazine.

I like the tickets idea, even if he is not into sports, maybe a comedy or some music or a show. It ties in the whole paper anniversary thing.

$200!!?? If that is your idea of "affordable," then I want to marry you! :-P

Oh. Wait. You'd probably expect that in return, too. Nevermind.

I was going to suggest YOU. Dress up really nice and sexy. Prepare a nice, light meal. Feed him. Take him to bed. Then do whatever he wants. Won't cost you anywhere near $200, and will be the best present he ever received.

Does he have any diamonds in his wedding band? My friend took her hubby's band and had more diamonds set in it. Depending on how many you do (and how big they are) you can come in within your budget, and it is a really nice thing to do. She plans on doing it every anniversary until they wrap all the way around his band.

It all depends on what hobbies he has as to what you should purchase. Watch what he's doing and maybe some hints he gives you. "I like this" or "This would be cool to have".

$200 is a pretty nice gift.

I know my fiance would want tools or something on that matter. Something he could use more than once would be a great thing. But tools he doesn't have are always a great gift for a guy
