To those that are questioning if it is real or not - of course it is real - you need to have it re-dipped to every once in awhile to bring the "white" back out. I have also heard that it help to buff out the scratches.

You are supposed to get it redone when the ring starts to turn yellow. This will be a different length of time for different people because of the variation in body chemistry from person to person.

I have white gold rings from Zales and I have no complaints about them. I do have them "dipped" once a year, but it's not because they need it. We (or should I say he) bought some lifetime policy on them so it's free and it makes them look like new. My best friend has a platinum ring... she has to have that stupid thing buffed and polished 3 to 4 times a year! She is always complaining about it. If you do go with white gold, don't use that bottled cleaner stuff on them. Regular toothpaste or a little dawn dish washing liquid works best (so we are told by a jeweler / friend of the family). Avoid anything with chlorine!!! It will cause the ring to discolor... something about the pH levels. I love my rings and Zales has never disappointed us with the quality and workmanship.

I have been married for over 30 years and my ring has never been re-dipped. If it is real gold it will always look good.

You could accept that it shows signs of life and wear.
Just like real life, really.
So that after some time it shows that it's been with you for a while, but it's still as strong as the day you got it.
I like the symbolism in that.

I am assuming that your ring is not real gold and is gold plated, or why would you ever have to have it re-dipped?

I don't think that you should do it very often. Only when it is turning yellow. I had it done when I had my rings for about 3 years.

I would just say when you start noticing it wearing off. If you have a lifetime warranty then you can just get it done whenever it needs to be!
