Your weight may have gone up because your body replaced fat with muscle, and muscle is heavier than fat, so while you will look leaner you will weigh more. It's quite normal. I suggest you meet with a trainer and nutritionist at least once to make an eating and excersize plan you can follow and incorporate into your lifestyle. I suggest mixing it up with cardio three times a week and weight training for tone once or twice a week. Give your body two days of rest to allow muscles to develop. Also eat a lot of lean protein and drink a lot of water, try to cut out white bread and sugars, eat whole grain bread and pasta.

You say you have lost some "chub" but your weight has increased, that's because muscle weighs more than fat. Remember too, that if you want to burn fat, it's all about burning more calories than you are taking in. But that doesn't mean to work out all day and only take in 500 calories. Calories (the right balanced amount with plenty of protien and some carbs) converts to energy. Make sure that you are getting about 400 calories each for three meals and two 100-150 calorie snacks. If you don't get ENOUGH calories, you will feel hungry and start "grazing" meaning picking at things all day and those calories will REALLY add up. Plus, if you don't eat enough, your metabolism will slow to try to conserve energy and then you'll have even more trouble losing. Let me give you an example. In September of 2005, I started going to a gym. I worked out for about an hour a day 5-7 days a week. I would watch the "calories burned" display on the eliptical and stationary bike and kept a log of that and my excercises, etc, to monitor my weight loss. But I never paid much attention to what I ate. After a month and a half, I only lost around 10 lbs. Some days I lost none, and some days I even gained a pound or 2! Yes, I was building some muscle but I wasn't getting rid of much "chub" either. Then I got pregnant and put on 45 pounds! I lost 24 of that after giving birth. But over the next 8 months, I put ALL of it back on. I made a decision mid May to get it off before my son's first birthday. I only have 4 pounds left to go now and I still have until the end of the month to meet my goal. Why was it so much easier to lose weight now than when I was going to the gym? Because, I have been trying to watch my portion control, taking in a total of around 1,500 calories a day, keeping an eye on fat intake, cutting sugar intake tremendously, and taking in more protein and some carbs. I've also found that I burn more calories by pushing my son around town in the stroller for an hour, than I did going to the gym for an hour! Do you see what I mean now? You don't necessarily have to work out harder, just find something that you enjoy that burns a good amount of calories and don't take in more calories than you need. Feel free to email me if I can help any further. I hope this makes enough sense and good luck!

If you aren't that active of a person, you should try just walking on a treadmill (or outside if its a nice evening) for about 30 - 45 minutes a day to start out. Then start carrying weights and/or wearing ankle weights when you walk. Make sure you keep up a decent pace while walking though so that your heart rate stays high (thats when you burn the most calories). Along with walking/exercising you NEED to eat right. If you don't eat healthy then all that exercise will be for nothing. Also remember that if you are doing any workouts with weights, your muscles will be toning up, you will lose some of the "chub" and still gain weight because muscle is more dense than fat, 5 pounds of muscle is almost unnoticable as compared to 5 pounds of fat.

Good luck and stick with it and you'll see the pounds begin to literally "shed" off of your body.

muscle mass is what you are gaining. You are burning fat which is more bulky than muscle and you look slimmer but your weight has not changed any. This is what I am doing too. My heart Dr. told me to lose 60 lbs( I am 6ft and weigh 235 and my Dr. wants me to weigh 175lbs), I eat alot of peanut butter and crackers and not eat anything else, drink coke 0 work 10 hours a day 6 days a week and still don't lose a lb, but I keep trying.

Go for cardiovascular training everyday at least 30 minutes. A basic cardio exercise would be jogging; sports like tennis, boxing etc could also be considered cardio workouts. A healthy and balanced diet would also go a long way.

Don't do the cleanse thing- bad idea- unless you just want to pass out and lose weight for 3 days, then gain it all back plus more too.

Start regular cardio- walking, jogging, swimming, biking, hiking, whatever. No way around it- you gotta do it. No magic solution- good diet and exercise.

At a continuous rate it will take 4 or 5 months to lose this weight.

NO FAST FOOD, NO SWEETS, NO FRIED FOODS NO BREADS, POTATOES, RICE OR STARCHY FOODS..

LIGHT ON THE MEAT AND HEAVY ON FRUITS AND VEGETABLES. NO PACKAGED FOODS, they are heavy on preservatives.

LOTS OF WATER AND FLAVORED WATERS, 6 TO 8 BIG GLASSES OR BOTTLES A DAY.

TAKE A LONG BRISK WALK MORNING AND NIGHT AT LEAST A MILE OR TWO. WORK UP TO SPEED WALKING. This would be a start.

Good Luck.
