I grew up in the military my old man was a lifer..I was born over seas..and my father warned me that the military will use you and dont care what happens to you..just look at Nam and the way the vets are treated by the same goverment that sent them there in the first place..oh many stories do you have to read about vets being mistreated by the goverment..before you say not me..I do love this country but not the goverment and I will die to defend my homeland but not some place else..sorry its the truth time to face it ...this has nothing to do with politics more to do with the goverment in general both parties are to blame..

You need to learn some facts before making assumptions. If you have problems with the ROE then you should _quote_ the parts you have problems with.

Otherwise it is safe to assume that you are criticizing something you know nothing about.

Thank you for NOT joining. We don't need your type in the service. I do not want your type fighting alongside braver and more honorable men and women. The fact that you would rather "defend (your) homeland but not some third world shyt hole" is the reason that OUR soldiers, sailors pilots etc are fighting overseas...so that we don't HAVE to fight on our soil. This is maybe not an ideal circumstance, however I would rather spare the lives of our civilian citizens and keep our cities and towns from becoming war zones. Perhaps you would prefer to have IEDs along the streets in your neighborhood, or suicide bombers blowing up your churches, nightclubs, bus stations, subways and yes, even your own house. Perhaps you would prefer to have to be on your guard 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Or maybe, just maybe, you should move to a 3rd world country, and the rest of the people who feel like you should move too. Ideally, all of those who make attacks on our military men and women would lose their citizenship and be kicked out of the country....don't let the door hit you on your way out.

WOW Not sure what put a bug up your butt however lets get some of the facts straight.
I see part of your issue and that is the safe rules (one arm tied behind your back) you must know your target sorry but even as a two time disabled veteran i would not shoot unless i know what i am shooting at.
As for using you like nothing they do expect allot however you can excel to that threshold.
Treating you like **** when you get back that is really not even the Government over all it is the people that run the government.
We the people used to be the government now the politicians are the Government and out only hope is to battle the Government to return the rights and freedoms of our people. But it take all of us weather at home or abroad voting and voicing facts and getting involved in the politics and Government is our only chance otherwise we appear to be on our way to a low level dictatorship.

If this is how you really feel about the US military you should not join. Todays military is a volunteer army. With any employer, there are flaws in the system. I believe the US has made progress since vietnam in protecting our vets, although more needs to be done. My best advice is find a branch that suits your particular needs. The Air Force and Navy have a better reputation regarding deployments and quality of life. As a navy wife i can say joining the navy is the best thing my hubby as done for his career. We have a great life, have traveled all over the world and have financial stability.

Serving in the low ranks US military is no different from doing so in any other modernized western country's military: you don't receive many benefits really and they do expect a lot from you. If you don't like the career option then I'd suggest looking for something else (many Police forces are recruiting and its in a similar vein). It's a free country after all.

Well first you need to work on your bitterness and forgiveness issues. Then you can clearly look at the options and make the best choice - just because your Dad got the shaft doesn't mean everyone does. You gotta take the good and bad together no matter where you live or what job you have.

Yes the military will use you and treat you like sh**, but what I love about the military is the comradery, we really take care of each other, and that makes it all worth it. Its like having one big family. Another thing you have to relize is the military will use you, so you have to use it while your in. Yet get out of it what you put into it. You just gotta get all the medical benifits and educational benifits that you can while your in. Another thing you have to consider is the spend a crap load of money training you, so they are going to work the hell out of you and get there money's worth they put into you. Afterwards you can bank on the training you recieved. In the end, I think its all worth it.

1. they went to jail because they followed a unlawful order

2. the fighting with one hand behind our backs isn't right, we work on a catch and release policy

3. you don't have to get shot at, if they point a weapon at you, you can shoot at them. this includes children. i have heard countless stories of children with toy guns nearly getting shot only the orange tip saved their lives

4. since ive been back i haven't been treated like shyt, but i am disappointed that no store in my hometown offers a military discount

Your dad, was probably like me also. We had no choice there was a draft. You either waited for the draft or you enlisted in your service choice (Navy, Marines, Army, and lowly Air Force).
At least your generations has a choice.
