I think if you're just going for the one and not intending on having anything like a full sleeve done, a good place I quite like is the back of the neck, just below the hairline, looks great.

Don't get a tattoo. It will be wicked awesome for about 2 weeks. Then it will just be awesome. Then after a few months it will just be cool. After a year it will just be there. Eventually it will be lame and then wicked lame. But you'll be stuck with it. Which will make you wicked lame. I'm tellin' ya' don't do it.

Get it on on your back, on one of the shoulder blades. If your not sure about that placement you could do it on your chest area.

A good place would be on your lower back or ankle. Good luck.

How about at the top of your arm or on your shoulder?

I would say that the pectorals (chest) is the best place.
