Only for believers of God/ the Bible. Do you believe there are signs that you are within God's will,( on the right path ). I do believe that it is useless, even destructive to be willful and try to perform works of the flesh, but what are signs that you are on the right path?
A side question is that
Psalm 91 says that he shall "give his angels charge over thee. They shall bear thee up in their hands Lest thou dash thy foot against a stone".
Yet in so many places in the Bible it says the rightous WILL SUFFER:
2 Thess 1:5 `which is' a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God; to the end that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:
Acts 9:16 "must suffer"
2 Cor. 1:7 Partakers of the suffering
Phil. 1 :29 "suffer in his behalf
1 Thess 3:4 "we are to suffer affliction"
and many others.....
Obviously ALL the Martyrs were not in their hands, less they dash their foot......

Spotlite- Thank you for your personal testimony.
lhalmiut- I like that twist that "will not dash your foot" means will not stumble in your faith.
But Fuzzy brought about the small voice in my head.
Your link said "As the exodus from Egypt amply proves, deliverance can pale without one’s onions, cucumbers and other delicacies and comforts."
I wanted to reject this, as meaningless. But that small, still , voice said - "What you see as suffering is not what God sees as suffering."
A person dieting for health reasons could be said to be "suffering" from hunger. But allowing for that hunger is a good, helpful thing- much more beneficial than hiding from it.
What we want is to be saved from DISCOMFORT, and that is not what Psalm 91 promises. Only to protect us from evil truly HURTING/ DAMAGING us?
Do I have it?

An interesting question, and complex.

Christians are destined to suffer, they have to. That is true especially for the Saints, Born Again.

Look at Rom 14:8, 9
------
For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; or whether we die, we die unto the Lord. Therefore, whether we live, or whether we die, we are the Lord's. 9For to this end Christ died and rose again; that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. (DRC)
--------
Thus dead or alive, Christians will be resurrected and their sufferings brought to null.

Presently all die, get old, get ill, have accident, etc. That too is suffering! Right?

Thus there is the suffering that the Saint / ordinary Christian is destined to suffer during his life. As your own quotations bore out.
--------

In what way is Ps 91 brought to bear?

A. It is interesting that there were attempts on Christ's life but that he was not permitted to die because it wasn't time for him yet!

B. Once a person is appointed by Christ as a Saint or Born Again, this person cannot from the point of initial sealing until his/her final sealing die! This is explained a bit more here:
http://bythebible.page.tl/The-Sealing-ar-.htm

Thus in that manner, Psalms 91 is brought to bear so as to mean untimely suffering that will result in damage that is against the will of God. The Saint must be tested to his limits before he is permitted to die, and cannot be permitted to die prematurely.
----------

As far as ordinary Christians are concerned, the same restriction that is in force for the Saint is not in force for them. Still, God does at times protect such from untimely death.

Also, because of the promise of the paradise, the final end result shall be that all ills suffered will be repaired.

The Bible has to be read with understanding. Scripture tells us that God gives his angels watch over us, to protect us from even stepping on a stone. This is how much He cares for us. This has nothing to do with the martyrs. They are two different issues. If the teacher says, "No talking in class," does that mean you're not to answer her questions in class? No, they are two different issues. Martyrs choose to suffer for a principal. The martyrs spoken of in the scriptures suffered for a cause and died serving God. It's not the same as God's angels looking over me.

There's no great puzzle, or any great signs involved with being in God's will. When you are following God's word--His commandments, you're in His will.

Good question. Made me think about that. Luke 4:9-12 talks about Jesus being tempted and the devil used these Scriptures to tempt Him. I suppose the angels keep us from temptation, but do not protect us in every trial. There comes a time when God uses us for a witness and we cannot escape suffering.

the scripture was a prophecy about CHRIST. we will always have protection from GOD, because we are HIS. yes trials will come by our lives. I had an accident with a pocket knife that I could 've bled to death from. but GOD filled me and led me to do the right things. HE provide all my needs and everything turned out ok. i had cut an atrery in my wrist lengthwise, that way the blood cannot clot. i was not in a postion to go to the hospital, and i was driving an 18 wheeler. it was somethingelse. Last year i was driving the same truck, and stopped short of a driveway of a truckstop, to let another truck with a crane on the back to pull out of the same driveway, he turned out and came by on my left and his crane boom, not correctly secured, unlocked and swung thru my truck tearing the front cab away, and I was in it. but GOD BE PRAISED, I walked away. I still hurt and the crane co. is stubborn but I am sure things will work out in time. so GOD is with us, no matter what.

I do believe that there are 'signs' when we are choosing the right path.... when we decided to move to the town we are in now... everything fell into place so perfectly, that it couldnt be anything but God
1. our house sold for the asking price on the first showing
2. our bid on a house was accepted at given amount
3. we were allowed to build a hangar on land for $2/month rent for 20 years
4. we found a church that our KIDS wanted to attend
5. we paid off our new home in 1 year, our business loans in 18 months, and all other debt was gone in 2 years

we had 'suffered' before that, but only in the 'fire of suffering' are we going to learn to rely on God and not ourselves. We need to be refined by that fire, standing on our faith alone in Jesus Christ

most of the time, suffering is when we seek out our own path, knowing that it is NOT God's chosen path... and he allows us to go thru it to learn to trust Him alone

Notice your own answer, For Jesus espounded to them all things in the book of Moses, and in the prophets and in the Psalms concerning HIMSELF. Jesus himself told us what is true concerning the scripture, by fulfilling only that which he truly told unto the prophets. For Jesus said O' fools and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken, and
all that were before me were thieves and robbers,

Do not confess Jesus as your savior then follow the teachings of another.
