Jumping rope is FAR better than the treadmill. I think I read once where 10 minutes of jumping rope is equal to 30 minutes of jogging (cardio-wise) I'm a avid jumper and to get additional benefits get a weighted jump rope. Make sure the rope part is weighted, not the handles. This gives a great lower and upper body workout. There is a pretty good rope called "heavy rope" its a little expensive but works great.

Walking is one of the easiest exercises. It is suitable for people of all ages and various lifestyles. If you are a beginner, walk at medium pace. Then keep on increasing your pace so that you can achieve your ideal target heart rate. Increase resistance by walking uphill to increase heart rate. Besides being an excellent cardio exercise, walking will uplift your spirit.
