The version of Windows has no affect on whether you can transport an Office file between computers. The version of Office does. If both computers have the same version of the Office program, then there is no problem.

However, if either computer (regardless of the version of Windows) has the new Office 2007 and the other does not, then you may have problems. Office 2007 is not compatible with earlier versions of Office. While Office 2007 can open files from earlier versions of Office, earlier version of Office can NOT open Office 2007 files.

But there is an option in Office 2007 which allows you to save files in the format of the earlier versions of Office.

So it is not the version of Windows, but the version of Office which will determine whether you can share files between the two PCs.

Yes.

Of course you need to have office applications installed on your new Vista computer otherwise it will not know how to open office documents.
