I have a friend who received several felonies for theft (larceny) in North Carolina. He got a good lawyer, but I was curious, what is the usual punishment for a case like this?

Will he go to jail? Be put on probation?

Are you allowed to live in another state while on probation?

I'm sorry, but I know nothing about things like this. Someone help!

First off: I don't care about your opinion about his punishment, I just asked if anyone was informed about the law.

Second: Let me clarify, what is the normal punishment for a larceny felony in the state of North Carolina?

Felony convictions CAN result in a minimum of 1 year and a day up to life in prison. It's depends on the crime and the level of the felony.

Larceny has different classifications (1st Degree or Class A) down to "lesser included" levels of the offense.

A person can move probation from one state to another with permission and acceptance from the losing and gaining states!

In an attempt to answer your question if your friend will go to jail...maybe...then again many factors determine when and if someone serves time. Prior convictions is a main reason for someone getting jail time.

If your friend has a relatively clean record....most likely a suspended jail term, probation, and pay restitution, plus court costs and fines.

Best wishes.

I suggest you talk to your friend's lawyer, he will probably know.
