And to the person who thinks that this was nothing to be afraid of...the dog is not even 5 months old and the plant and plant pot fell on her and made a loud noise and then she was running around with the plant stand choking her. So yeah...If i had anal glands i would empty them too.

Sometimes their anal glands will let loose when they are startled. Pretty stinky fish smell. If its in her fur you'll have to wash her butt off to get rid of the stink. At least you won't have to pay the vet to empty them!

Wait, your dog emptied her anal glands because her leash got hooked to a plant and everyone seems to think there is nothing wrong with that? Everything is normal? OMG. Where is the nerve on that dog? What kind of a dog is she?
What would happen if something more "real" happened to her, how would she react?
Dogs like that can and do develop all kinds of issues later in life. Fear biting is a very real possibility in her future, do be careful.

It depends on what she smelled like. If she smelled like urine, she probably just peed very little out of fear. If it smelled like dead fish and trash, she probably expressed her anal glands which is very common if a dog gets very scared. It is completely normal and there would be no need for a vet. I would just wash her bottom off with a little soap and water to relieve the smell.

Hi,

I have a website about Standard Poodles and a page about Anal Glands. Read what I have to say about my sister-in-law's Border Collie and my experience with anal glands. It wasn't too fun!

Yes - anal glands - there are 2 of them located on either side of the rectum.

Nothing to worry about unless they get impacted.

Ask your vet to show you where they are located, what to look for in case of impaction, and how to gently express them should they need it.

she literally had the crap scared out of her. Well not quite, but she will be fine.

that's the good old anal glands. Bath time!

My guess is she will stay away from that mean old plant stand, now.

Yea, they can sweat when they get stressed. Some dogs blow their coat with massivei shedding, some drool, some stink. My shepherd is in the last catagory. It's a musky, stinky smell. Just stress related. Time to hit the bath I guess! After she gets her heart rate back to normal!

Her fright or flight instinct caused her to empty her anal sacs. Your vet will explain it. Do not worry. This is only natural.
