Yes, 2 car seats will fit into your mustang...no more and no less. However if your not sure if they will fit, then I am guessing your not sure how to buckle them in either. Though this may like seem like a big deal, getting them buckled in right is a big deal. Call your local police dispatcher and ask if your town has a program to help with putting a car seat in you car. If so, have your sister sit in your place with her kids while you take the seats down empty and get them to hook them up for you. With your family, especially kids it is better safe than sorry. And if your still unsure...call your car insurance company and ask what they will cover if you screw up with a child seat.

Most every car can fit a car seat - the only issue you may run into is that car seats aren't universal. A car seat that works in your sister's car may or may not work in your car. If you're going to take them out a few times a month or more, consider buying seats to just keep in your car, its a lot easier than taking them in and out. Have a CPST (child passenger safety technician) install them, you can usually make an appointment with one at a police station, and just leave them in position if possible.
If that sounds like too much money/hassle right now, just try the seats your sister already has. If they work, you're good to go. There's a site in the sources where you can do a search for your type of vehicle to see what type of car seats other people have gotten in it. Or, you can search by what type of car seat your sister has and see if anyone has gotten one into a Mustang.
Also, I have a 2 door Civic, an almost 3 year old son, and an 8 year old sister I tote around every day. It IS a pain, to only have 2 doors, however, I'm used to it, its really not that big of a deal anymore. I slide the front passenger seat all the way up, and step in behind it to buckle them in. I'll never be able to 3 seats across probably, but 2 works. :)
Just remember to never put a car seat in a front seat with an airbag. They're safest in the back anyways. Also, children 12 and under should always sit in the back seat. Children who are less than 80lbs and less than 4'9" should be in a booster seat. Children should stay rear facing AS LONG AS POSSIBLE to the limits of their seat, and then be turned forward facing and stay in a 5 point harness as long as possible to the limit of the seat that way.

Short answer: yes. Long answer: not EVERY rear facing seat for every child will fit in a mustang. Is it for a newborn or an older baby? Newborns require a 45 degree recline angle, which means the seat will take up a lot of room, just plan on likely not being able to use the passenger seat in front of it. I would suggest putting it in the middle so the back of the child seat could poke in between the 2 front seats, allowing more space, but if memeory serves me right it seems like mustangs don't have a middle seatbelt. Best best for small cars: Evenflo Triumph Advance or Cosco Scenera. The Cosco Scenera makes a great rear facing seat, especially at only $45, but it does not make a great forward facing seat, so plan on needing to get another harnessed seat when the child is 2-3 years old. But it will fit. Evenflo Triumph Advance is a great seat all around. The Evenflo Triumph Advance (not the original Triumph, make sure it says Advance) is a great seat. $150 version at Babies R Us has padding similar to Britax seats, top slots of 17", harnesses to 35lbs rear facing, and 50lbs forward facing. $120 Walmart version just has little less plush padding. Wide open belt path, easy to install, though it doesn't have built in lockoffs. The harness adjusts at the front of the car seat, you don't have to take the car seat out of the car just to raise/lower the straps. It's one of only 2 seats that does this (The Britax Boulevard is the other, I believE), and it has infinite harness adjustment so the harness always fits perfectly until its outgrown. No more tugging straps to tighten them either. You tighten and loosen the harness using knobs on the side of the seat. As a major bonus, it can be used in a recline position even in forward facing mode. Awesome for kids who still sleep in the car. I LOVE THIS SEAT! LOL My son, who is too big for every other car seat at Walmart has the same amount of room in this as the Britax Marathon. You can get a rear facing car seat in almost any car: a car seat tech got a rear facing Marathon (one of the bigger ones) into her husband's Porsche911. If it can fit in there, it can fit in a Mustang. If the baby is older, 6+ months, the seat can be put at a lesser angle, 30-45 degrees, giving more room.

I had a 2000 mustang GT and I did get a car seat in the back once. It's a tight fit, and getting the child in and out is tough on your back, but it can be done. Newer oneseven have hooks on the rear deck for that LATCH system thing.

I have raised three children in Mustangs. It is a pain to put the car seat in the back, especially with the convertible, but it was worth the hassle to drive a car I wanted... NO MINIVANS!

It can be done. It is a hassle getting the kids in and out. That was the reason we sold our GT convertible. With 2 seats in the back it was just too much. My daughter sold her Mustang for the same reason. If you are only doing it on the rare occasion, it won't be that bad. Good luck.
