When I handed my notice in to my last employer, they insisted that I work my full months notice, then , 8 working days before I was due to finish, they told me to pack up my things and they then escorted me from the office. I have since received my last payment and I noticed that they didnt pay me for the last 8 days. Do they have to pay me for the last week?

I don' believe there is any specific legislation which is relevant to your case, what will be very relevant is the terms of employment which you should have signed when starting the position.

In this there should have been some written agreement about how notice periods are handled. It is not uncommon that if you are moving jobs for employers to be unhappy for you to remain, often if you have access to sensative information / data which could benefit a new employer, and reserve the right for you to finish as soon as handing in your notice.

If you cannot find a contract, or don't know what your terms were you could contact the HR function (or whatever is closest) in your old office. Explain politely your grievances, and ask them what the policy is as you feel you are entitled to those last 8 days. They should give you a pretty straight answer.

Finally, if they are being awkward, it might not be worth the hassel of sorting this out. Taking them to an employment tribunal can be a drawn out affair. Seeing as you appear to have a new job, and that it is only 8 days pay, perahps it is one of those things in life thats worth letting go.

Hope this helps!

Yes absolutely, they legally have to pay you unless the reason they told you to leave was because you did something wrong, like stealing, in which case they can dismiss you without pay, however most still pay you to avoid any disputes.

Yes, they must pay you unless they sacked you for a serious offence in which case you would forfeit any part of your notice not worked.

If you are paid hourly then no. There is no law that requires any employer to accept a notice.

YES - you gave them ONE MONTH notice - they chose to let you go - they have to pay you.
