Maybe try reading it like a history book just for the sake of learning more about human history and to reflect on what the human race has learned or not learned over time.

You have to do more than just read it. That's the problem with a lot of people. It's not just another book. It helps to understand the social, cultural, and historical context within which it was written. Also, you say you started reading the Bible, and didn't say how far you'd gotten. My recommendation would be to take some good Bible study classes that go into all of the above mentioned topics in addition to the history and theology of the Jewish and Christian religions.

My favorites from the OT:

Job - A discourse on suffering, why God allows it
Proverbs - you should read this one
Ecclesiastes - more practical wisdom
Song of Songs - The ideal of romantic love, with God in the picture
Isaiah - a foreshadowing of the New Testament

New Testament:

The Gospels, Acts, Romans, Ephesians, for starters

And no, you didn't open your mind. Sounds like you already had it made up, if you found all of the above to be somehow "evil"

Well, I hate to break your bubble...but the Old Testamant is the real and actual book of G-d. It gives us details of what and why. Some may be "scary", but that is the way of life in those times. And, we are still dealing with some of the evil that is written in the OT. We must stop the lying, stealing, killing, and Lashon Hara before we ever see Mashiach - or have the 3rd Temple built.

Read the OT for the truth...read the NT for fiction, as it was written taken the OT out of context and twisting the words to accomodate people who want a lie.

MY point of view from learning Torah.
Sorry - but this is FACT.

Have a nice day.

The Tanakh ("Old" Testament) must be read in conjunction with the Talmud. Reading it without the Talmud could be compared to Christians reading the OT without the "New" Testament.

the bible tells you what happened is not telling you it was right but the facts it doesn´t hide the information , to pretnd that the partakers were perfect, the story of King David an ugly story , but that was what happened, and was true, in many historic books doesn´t tell you the bad parts only the good ones.

According Jesus pbuh’ O Christians are you really a Evil and illegitimate Generation???
Matthew 16:4 An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and a sign will not be given it,

The Holy Bible gives the cause of this cancer and blight: " Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four footed beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. Romans 1:22-27
O Christians according to Jesus pbuh, you are Adulterous generation. Please let me know ratio of illegitimate children in Christian population. I know America 41% generation is result of Adultery.

Alhumdulillah, I am Muslim.

The Bible needs to be read as a whole. Yes some parts seem bad, but you need to understand the reason for what is happening.

Yes yes yes. Interpret. Why is it we are supposed to take the bible literally until we disagree with it and THEN we are supposed to interpret it. I don't think it's evil, it's just a book. But the weirdos who take it literally until it's convenient to interpret it -- now THAT'S evil.

Well, depend on how you interpret the meaning of each verses in the bible. Better off read new testaments first.

The bible is just a book, your mind who is interpreting it EVIL.

Evil mind will give carnal thought
Evil mind will create bad understanding
Evil mind will make yourself more sceptic.

Not the bible.

ADDITIONAL: "YOU CALL ME NONSENSE???"

I don't care if you use the book for the door stop. You are nonsense and bullshitt. As i said, you have evil thought. Screw you bastard.

You forgot to do a few things required to understand any religious text.

1-Make irrational explanations for the bad things that fill 3/4 of bibles.
2-Make excuses for god so he always looks like the good guy.
3-Must be delusional to understand everything.
4-Give money to your church.
