I feel that my metabolism has slowed down. I excercize each day, try to eat healthy, take a walk for 45 minutes every nite after dinner, etc...Yet, I don't seem to be losing weight. I would like to lose about 20 lbs.
What suggestions would you have to put my metabolism on "speed"..that is, to help it work better?

A lot goes to a woman's age and where she is in her cycle. I've noticed that after 40, as we near menopause, things do slow down.

Exercise early in the morning, this helps rev your metabolism up for the whole day.

See a doctor for a full physical including bloodwork. Some women have hormonal imbalances such as thyroid etc. with age which can affect energy levels as well as metabolism.

Get enough sleep. Sleep deprivation makes us feel hungrier as the body asks for "quick fixes" of fuel...and stores more fat.

Avoid artificial stimulants like caffiene, alcohol etc. as well as "diet pills" and "quick-loss" diets such as Slim Fast etc. The body responds to change, but these "diets" are only good for a few pounds to fit into a new dress--and only keep the weight off in the short term. The minute you return to eating normal food, the weight comes back with interest.

drink more water. it works wonders. I want to lose weight myself, i found the more exercise i do, the faster my metabolism gets. I'm not an expert at this, but if you have been doing the same exercise for a long period of time, then your body is use tot his and that could be why your metabolism has slowed down or you feel it has, therefore, you need to change your daily routine, this confuses your metabolism and will become to work faster. You could change your exercise in simple ways, like speeding up for a minute or two every so often, or finding new ways of exercising, that your body is not use to.
Hope this has helped a bit. x

Are you keeping a food journal? When I do that, I can see where I make mistakes, and I can correct my mistakes.
One of the things that speeds up metabolism is to eat
every 2 or 3 hours. Try scheduling meals and snacks around that time frame. Also, you might want to consider eating more of your calories earlier in the day. And be sure you are getting in about 8 glasses of water daily. Not 8 glasses of liquids--water. Then if you are still thirsty, you can drink
something else. Good Luck!

Metabolism may well be divided into: Anabolism and Catabolism. Anabolism incorporates all the procedures by which new greater complicated compounds are assembled interior the cellular. Catabolism does the different. Degrading compounds from their greater complicated shape, to the simplest molecules, i.e. catabolism, is likewise a fashion for the cellular to acquire capability. This technique is likewise huge-unfold as oxidation. In oxidation chemical compounds lose electrons, as a effect liberating capability. this occurs while iron gets rusty, however the capability is lost interior the reaction of forming the rust itself. interior the cellular, even if, the capability is used to variety ATP. ATP is a substance it relatively is used everywhere interior the cellular, the place capability is important: chemical reactions, shape synthesis, stream, etc. because of the fact the call shows, oxidation needs oxygen, or a minimum of a chemical substance which will take the electrons. while oxygen is available, an entire oxidation happens. which skill the substance used as source of capability (maximum in all probability glucose) is thoroughly broken down and stripped of all the capability the cellular can take from it. while oxygen isn't available, the oxidation is incomplete. The replacements for oxygen the cellular delivers are actually not as efficient as oxygen itself, and for that reason, many of the capability isn't gained by the cellular. cardio metabolism happens of direction interior the presence of oxygen, i.e. oxidation is complete. Anaerobic metabolism, happens interior the absence or loss of oxygen, i.e. oxidation is incomplete. by using this, anaerobic metabolism is far less efficient than cardio metabolism.

All overweight people say so.

Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day. Nothing other than water in between. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%. Chew each morsel at least 32 times to activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness. Obey these signals.

Take light exercises and brisk walks regularly preferably twice a day.

U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time. Do not be in a hurry.

Sometimes trying to eat healthy,we add more fats or eat higher density foods with more calories than we realise.Go to www.mypyramid.gov It is the officiall site for the USDA food pyramid. It has an interactive site that will let you record all that you eat. Then it tells you how many calories, vitamins, minerals it contained. It will give you exercise guidelines and tracks your exercise levels also. When I started, I thought I was eating really good. But quickly found out ,that I was not as on track as I thought.

Try changing your routine a bit. Your body is probably so used to it that it's not doing anything to benefit you.
