I left my two cats with someone when I was homeless and had no money. I didn't want to take them to a shelter and this guy I left them with had agreed to take them in for some time. I trusted them with him because he had cats of his own and my babies were free to roam and prance around his house and I came to feed them everyday and to change litter.
Abruptly I had to leave the country almost overnight and I left the cats with him. Circumstances were really bad for a while and then two months later, I tried to get in touch with Carlo, the guy who had my cats. However, Carlo is MIA- I can't get hold of him on the cell # I had for him. I would like to know if he still has my babies or if he gave them away. I want to locate them and somehow bring them to me in Asia. Is there any way to recover cats from shelters once they're given away? If I do manage to locate my kitties, how can I bring them back, provided I cannot go and physically bring them on a plane myself?

First, do you have money to fly the cats to Asia?

Recently I flew 2 cats, Hani and Sahara, from Israel to the USA for rehoming. It was very expensive.

You can see Hani and Sahara at

To try and find your kitties, call other people who know Carlo and see if they know how to contact him.

Maybe Carlo moved and took the kitties with him. Maybe he's on vacation.

If they were given to a shelter, they are probably already in a new home. If that's the case, there is nothing you can do.

I hope you find your kitties.

If this guy gave your cats up to a shelter, chances are you're not going to find them now. If they were not adopted right away, unfortunately they were probably euthanized. Millions of unwanted cats are given up in the US every year and there just aren't enough good homes for them. Getting animals shipped overseas requires a great deal of expense and paperwork, especially if they will be unaccompanied. Unless you are able to find someone here who knows where they are and can get them for you, then help you arrange the transport, it's going to be very difficult for you.

The thing is you run away and abandoned your cats, without telling the person you had left them with. I hope they are well, but I don't think they should be given back to you, so that you can put them through a long flight, quarantine, god knows what else, and then abandon them again in Asia!

Once you find them, you can have them sent to you. Over the plane. I do think they need to be Vet checked and have proper papers.
