People have always thought it was, and of course, those days predicted have come and gone.We do not know when the world will end, but God tells us to watch. There are certain signs that can tell us that it may be close. Some of those signs are here, and can serve as a warning. Things in the world have gotten more severe, more violent, terrorists, epidemics, illnesses, family problems, weather conditions, global warming, etc. Knowledge has increased, communication all over the world, and media lets us be aware of the bad stuff that's going on. And there's alot more that we actually don't know. If you put it all together, we are definitly in "end times"!
Not to be pessimistic...we can still have a hopeful outlook on it; but we should turn to God, and ask for protection for those we love, and for this crazy, mixed up world!

I believe we are close to the return of Jesus. When Jesus comes back to earth, there will be the 1000 year reign. So the world won't end for at least 1000 years. And I don't think it will, but will be renewed. For a paper on this, go to Yahoo group Following the Way and search for :why the end is near.

The Bible describes events and conditions that mark this significant time period. “The sign” is a composite one made up of many evidences; thus its fulfillment requires that all aspects of the sign be clearly in evidence during one generation. The various aspects of the sign are recorded at Matthew chapters 24, 25, Mark 13, and Luke 21; there are further details at 2 Timothy 3:1-5, 2 Peter 3:3, 4, and Revelation 6:1-8. There will be food shortages . . . in one place after another” (Matt. 24:7)
There will be great earthquakes” (Luke 21:11)
In one place after another pestilences” (Luke 21:11)
‘Increased lawlessness accompanied by a cooling off of love on the part of the greater number’ (Matt. 24:11, 12)
“Men become faint out of fear and expectation of the things coming upon the inhabited earth” (Luke 21:25, 26)
‘Christ’s true followers to be objects of hatred by all nations on account of his name’ (Matt. 24:9)
This good news of the kingdom preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness’ (Matt. 24:14)
Luke 21:31, 32: “When you see these things occurring, know that the kingdom of God is near [that is, the time when it will destroy the present wicked world and itself take full charge of earth’s affairs].Do you see any of these things or parts of the sign happening today? These show that we are indeed in the time of the end of the world right now.

No, but I try not to think about it. When I was a young girl, I was very religious (still am) and loved going to church and I trusted my teachers and the minster completely. One week it was said, from the pulpit. in the newspapers too, that a child was born with the mark and that the world would end by fire from the sky on such a date at noon. I was young and naive and I worked so hard that week being good. When the date came, at noon, my mother found me crouched in a corner in my bedroom with a bucket of ice and towels over my head, cold and hysterical. I laugh today, but it was not funny. I never went back to that church.

Atheistic reason: Yes. Climate change could lead to the runaway heating of the planet and kill all life in a very short period of time (as little as a couple of centuries)

Christian reason: Yes: it appears that the 7th Church has appeared (Book of Revelation) which means that the Tribulation should start soon.

Who knows. An asteroid could be on a collision course with earth right now and we would not know about it until it was too late.
