Most cars are petrol based vehicles the concept is Suck (Induction of fuel) squeeze (compression) Bang (Ignition of fuel) Blow (exhaust taking away waste fuel etc).
This all occurs in the cylinders and the pistons do the work, turn on a shaft which rotates and drives the transmition. (very brief)

become an apprentice at a shop and take some classes but hands on is the fastest.
a good piece of advice from someone who started out sweeping the floor at a transmission shop,learned how to service them,then learned how to take them out and install,
then learned to rebuild,now i own my own shop.LEARN IT WELL NOT FAST!and certainly not half fast. lol

yeah, i agree with that person that said rebuilt one.
everyone learns differently though, hands on is how i learn best but you could watch, or read about them too?
