Money was an evolution of barter, which we have been doing for a long time. In the process of barter, some items were easily exchangeable and became a good medium of exchange.
Whether one thinks of money as a commodity or as only a medium of exchange, its existence performs a vital function: efficiency of consumption. If money didn't exist and we all worked in a world where we provided services and goods to each other, demand would grow exponentially. By establishing a price on things, people develop a sense of economy within their household and demand is regulated by cashflow.
Not saying its the best system, but money within the system performs a crucial role. Until someone can find a way for humans to stop exploiting goods and services beyond their capacity to survive( which IMO is the REAL problem, not the role of money), then I'm willing to stick out the working-for-a buck gig.

Very good posting, I have been very poor and I have been wealthy and I have realised that money is energy in a way.
I agree with what you say about ignoring actually living your life and chasing the wind by living in the rat race and not consciously taking heed of life. It is quite sad I was exactly like that a couple of months ago. High flyer, poor health, working insane hours. Spending loads of money jet setting across the world. Had lots of things but felt empty inside. Then I was made redundant and since that happened it feels like a cloud has lifted and I feel free. I no longer worry about money in the way that I used to. I am convinced you can live an authentic life without starving.

You must have more money than I do. In the society we live in money is important. It is the very thing with which we use to barter and trade for services. Without money I can't have electricity , clean running water, or a roof over my head ,and a full belly in the evening. And you are correct I am not living in the future, I am in the here and now, you should try it sometime. I have three children and in the here and now money is a necessary evil. I need enough to make sure that all of their basic needs are met.

I think it is important for the time being. Without it we would never be able to cover our bodies as we buy clothes or buy food when we are hungry. you would never buy a present for your love on the valentine's day. How would our kids go to school and buy book and copybooks and all other stationary supplies if money is not important. I do not want to sound silly, but it is important as we also bought this computer and the connection to learn more about people around the world.
If you think you don't need your money, please send them to me.

Money isn't important. Important what you get for it. :-)
And I'm not talking about 'em fancy rides, guccies and all. I'm talkin about necessities - water, food, roof over your head. When you have the money - it's easy to say: "It's all BS". But when you're really thirsty, hungry... You'll have different approach.

Money is useful when you use it with wisedom and in its very place. It's a curse when you try to buy happiness or a wonderful life.
