Why don't you better the odds a bit? Remove the batteries and with the cover of the remote removed dry it with a blow dryer. Don't get it to hot! Often times a simple electronic device will work after to exposure to water if it is dried properly. The more sophisticated the device the less Chance it will,so you better not let your baby use your camcorder! When you are ready to try it install new batteries first.
Good Luck!
* After thought. Letting electronic devices air dry isn't wise because it increases the chances of oxidation on the PCB solder joints. Always speed up the drying process as much as possible.

should work
Take batteries out immediately
leave remote in warm place to dry
Insert NEW batteries in, in a couple days
my 20 month old did the same a month ago - but everything gets thrown into the kitchen sink instead - when I'm doing the dishes .. ..
.. oh terrible twos to go through yet ..
