There is no reason why you can't take a newborn outside directly after birth if he/she is dressed properly and you are feeling up to it.

Some people wait until the first shots (6 weeks), but that is a very long time without fresh air and a little vitamin D.

When you are feeling ready for a walk, your baby will be ready too.

I'm an asian... we have a tradition of not leaving the house for at least 40 days after birth... this is to make sure both baby and mom is strong enough before going out of the house... ;P we also have to take bath with warm water... babies are most sensitive after birth... you dont want to expose him to a cold weather..! ;P

straight away after the birth if you wanted to but its the mother that needs to take it easy and not do to much due to the risk of haemorrhage although you can go for a walk as long as you feel well enough

First day if you wish!! Don't over wrap new babies though - they can't sweat to get rid of heat. Personally I think fresh air is great for babies - go do it!! Will make you feel better too.

Ohhh and be sure you have a buggy that lies flat for baby - no sitting up.

As soon as you fell like taking it for a walk.
Just be sure to dress him/her accordingly. And always take a diaper bag with all the little things Jr might need.

Put the kid in a stroller and go for a walk. They arn't made of glass. Hell, i put my 10 day old in the vegetable scale at the grocery store to make sure he was gaining weight.

As long as you want, just be sure you dress your baby warmer than you would yourself. Also be sure there are no problems with mosquitoes and that it isn't too hot.
