Because I don't want it to still effect me when I try to wake up in four hours. I just took one about two minutes ago because I can't sleep & I have to wake up early in the morning. Will I have trouble waking up due to it still being in my system?

Newer generation non-benzodiazepine sleeping pills such as Ambien, Sonata, and Lunesta are safer than traditional benzodiazepines, which have many potential side effects with regular use that can outweigh benefits.

The side effects of Benzodiazepines include disturbance of deep sleep and dream sleep; a daytime “hangover” effect; and tolerance and physical dependence; for these reasons, non-benzodiazepine sleeping pills are the best choice for insomnia. It is important to note that intermittent, non-nightly use of hypnotics minimizes side effects and maintains efficacy over longer periods of time.

The drawbacks of hypnotics include the following:

• They don’t treat the causes of insomnia, which means that insomnia often returns upon discontinuation of hypnotic therapy
• Long-term regular (nightly) use of hypnotics can lead to psychological dependency
• Most patients don’t need long-term nightly use of a sleeping pill because they have mild to moderate insomnia; because they will respond as well to CBT; and, because a few nights per week of mild to moderate sleep loss will not significantly impair daytime functioning.
• Most hypnotics lose effectiveness after 4-6 weeks of nightly use
• Potential interactions of hypnotics with alcohol or other medications can be problematic
• Little data exists on long-term side effects of hypnotics
• Benzodiazepine side effects with regular use can ou

You should not have taken a sleeping pill if you have to wake up in four hrs.But usually medications usually stay in your system for 2 hrs. A good effective sleeping pill is supposed to give you at least 7 hrs of sleep. Having said that, I hope you were able to sleep and not have this hang-over feeling of not having a good night's sleep at all and feel ing tired

I'm a night - owl and suffer from chronic insomnia. I stay away from using sleeping pills because of the above mentioned disadvantages. My best measures to counteract that is by listening to music, reading a book or magazine or watching the boring TV. Drinking decaffeinated green tea also help.

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net

Ohhh..and Good Luck!

Most sleeping pills just put you to sleep, but some make you sleep for about 8 hours.
