I'm in my early 40s and I listen to everything from the 50s onwards - there's too much good music to restrict yourself to one decade! And with the wealth of home grown bands we have in the UK today, I'd be foolish not to listen to them!

I'm 30, and i've always listened to new and old music, ever since i was about 5 years old. I like stuff from the 60's onwards, and i'm always listening for songs that i've not heard before, whether it's a track from a 60's/70's/80's band, or a new band. There has never been a better time to be a music fan: the internet has made all genres of music from all decades available, for people to discover or rediscover, and record shops are full of reissues, anniversary editions and greatest hits cds, while the sheer amount of music channels and radio stations means that it's easier for new bands and artists to get their song heard. I don't understand people who will only listen to new music, or who will only listen to the music that they grew up with. There's so much great stuff out there!

I'm over 30 and i listen to music mostly from the 70's, 80's and early 90's. I listen to all kinds of music but rock and metal are my favourites . I don't mind some 50's and 60's but i'm not a big fan of those decades. As for today's music, there isn't a lot that i like. The whole emo and indie rock music doesn't do anything for me.

I'm a little over 30 and I listen to lots of soul and R&B from the 60's and 70's. I also listen to music from the late 90's - when neo-soul became big - to the present. Pretty much I don't listen to much from before the 60's, and almost nothing from the 80's and early 90's.

I'm 55 years old and I listen to most genres of music from the 40's to now with the exception of rap/hip-hop, that which I just can't stand it!! From the 90's to the present, I haven't found too much music to get excited over. Most of what I hear today is someone redoing old pop/rock songs into today's formats and I don't like it at all. I tried, but can't do it! I prefer 60's and 70's rock, pop, or country and even disco, but I'm into 40's swing and 80's rock, pop, and punk too. I have a wide range.

I was a teenager in the early seventies, so the grew up with a mix of folk, world music, progressive rock and psychedelic. It seems to have taken all this time for the influence of this music to re-emerge in the bands that are coming through today.
Although there was a purist element to some of these forms of music it took people like Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Fairport Convention and the like, to come along and mix it all up and produce the sound of the day. At the core of this was a body of songwriters and musicians, both self taught and classically trained, who understood there craft completely.
After watching Glastonbury last weekend it became apparent that there is a new generation of artists that have this talent and passion now.
It's wonderful to see artists really using their voices like instuments again; four piece bands that can play a set without having to resort to backing tracks and frills. All elements of music being mixed up and processed into something new. The initial source of music is inspiration and once it becomes manifest, to remain true, it must be organic.
I like; The Artic Monkeys
Kasabian
Ray Lamontagne
The Black Keys
Paul Nutini
The Killers
Seth lakeman
Beth Orton......
The future looks good.

I am in my late 20's and I listen to music from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and present. My favourite period for music however is most definitely the 60's.

I'm 24 and I listen to music from every decade. I find that there is something to learn and enjoy from every time period. I indulge in genres ranging from Classical to Punk and back again. It could be several hundred years old and played by a tribe in Zimbabwe and it would still have musical value and be enjoyable. I don't believe in sticking to one musical period or genre (though i do mostly enjoy Rock, but why limit myself?) That's not to say that there aren't some bands out there that I despise (MCR for example). I'm not to big on the whole new wave emo thing, but there might be a gem or two in there.
