I go to bed about 2 or 3 am. Right as I am getting close to going to sleep I will feel a weird feeling shoot down my right temple and through the main artery in my neck and at the same instant my heart rate spikes and pounds real hard and it disorients me for a few seconds then i am wide awake. The weird feeling through my temple is hard to describe but maybe the closest i can get is like a rush of blood, just feels like something go's through there, not painful but i feel it. After it is over i am wide awake, but have no problem going to sleep after it is over. I take a bi polar pill that helps me sleep so i have no problems sleeping. but I am wondering what would cause this problem. What could It be, what do you suggest? Only other info i can give you is I am a white male, 30 years of age and overweight.

It might be due to Restless Leg syndrome. Or the fear or anxiety of sleep apnea due to your overweight. I also have bipolar disorder. It could be the effect of antidepressants. that's why you shouldn't take them at night; they tend to make you hyper or upbeat. The mood stabilizer is okay to take at night. You should also try to go to bed early or at a decent time; because lack of sleep will make you more hyper.

Another possible cause to consider is hypertension. Because of your obesity.; most likely, you are hypertensive. this would account for the rush of blood to your right temple. You should really go to the doctor and have your blood pressure checked as well as your cholesterol and triglycerides. Hypertension and obesity and high cholesterol and triglycerides . All of these four common denominators would make you at high risk for stroke and heart disease.

It's also possible to get these TIA's or mini strokes which could account for this weird feeling in your neck veins; heart palpitations and pounding and disorientations.

Another impt thing to remember, is try not to go to bed with a full stomach. Try not to eat after 7 pm. .

You might want to try this.... get a blood pressure machine. Take you blood pressure while standing, sitting then laying down. Your blood pressure should be lower when laying down and go up as you stand. If it goes up when you sit or lay down there could be a problem.
You might want to check your blood pressure when this happens and if it up for some reason be sure to tell your doctor. The more info he has the more he can help.

hello there i am sorry to here of your worries, but have you spoke to your doctor it might be worth doing it ,so he and you can rule out a few things, my Nana was all ways having headaches before she went to bed and she left if for ages as she thought it was her bed, then her pillows ext, ext, her finally went and she had a brain tumor,NOT SAYING YOU HAVE. but at least you will be able to illuminate anything like like and then you will be able to try different things. It could be the tablet you take, or it could be stressed related, but i think your first protocol is to see the doc for some test.
i hope this has helped.
thank you Joanne.

Is it a side effect of your medicine? Ask your pharmacist.
