First, take a motorcycle safety course if you haven't already.

My suggestion, get a used standard style bike about 500 cc, ride it for a year and then upgrade. Personally I would stay away from a 125 or 250, you will outgrow them too quickly.

Get a Honda 599 or a Suzuki sv650. They are both easy to ride and stylish sport bikes that won't be boring after two months of riding like a 125 or a 250.

Start out with a 125cc for your first bike. In a year or two
after getting road experience you can graduate to a sports bike. I do not recommend starting with any thing bigger.
That could be a fatal mistake.

get a 250 like the ones in the training classes. Easy to learn all the basics. Then next year when your ready all depends on the time you spend on it gaining experiance get a 1100. Plenty of power and fun as he**. You will enjoy the crap out of it.

I would suggest something in 27-35 horsepower range as a max.
Make sure you can easily reach the ground with both feet when seated.
Find a reliable dealer where you can test it.
