i turned on my laptop and it keeps making a continuous (really loud) beeeeeeeep noise and i pressed the shutoff button and it wont and the mute button wont work... its a hpdv9000

Beep tones are emitted by the POST (power on self test) function when an error can't be displayed visually.

The 2 most common beep-tones are failing ram and failing video.

If you find that this is NOT due to a stuck key, then you should take the system in for hardware diagnostics.

I'm inclined to believe you probably have bad memory - just my gut-feeling.

check if there is a key stuck ....
the sound is from the system speaker hence the mute key does not help ...
try to check for any pressed down key
a way of identifying the key which is pressed down is by opening notepad and you will see it typing itself
or if its a non character key like tab , ctrl , try to type something and see the efffect it has on text ...

First thing I would check is if a key on the keyboard is stuck. If you aren't getting a display, then it might be more serious. You probably need to send it in for repairs / replacement.
