should I be?, because I'm about to be a college sophmore, I go to a community college, I did horrible my first year in college, I was on academic probation both semesters, I only gained a 11 units, I only passed one class, so most of the units I gained were from classes I got a "D" in, but I still need to make up, I slacked off the first of year of college because it was hard for me getting used to the new responsibility, I was just barely fresh out of high school, is this normal or just not abnormal or not are for first year college students to slack off or not do their best the first year?, I'm also worried that I'm gonna be stuck in community college for a long time, cause I didn't do good on the placement test, it put me in Math 010 & English 098, which are low-level classes, & I haven't passed any of them yet, I'm takining English 098 in summer school right now, which i'm making up from last fall, are a lot of community college students in this situation?, I also plan to transfer.

Many students struggle with the transition from high school to college. The expectations are higher and you alone are responsible for your actions. Grades can be typically lower in the first year. You don't want to continue as you are because you are not making any progress toward a degree.

A plan is exactly what you need to move forward from here.
Try a few of these:

-Take a good look at how you spend your time now.
(how many hours a week watching tv, games, email, etc.?)
Make a schedule and plan your study time as if it were an appointment you need to keep.

-Schedule an appointment with an academic advisor.
Explain that you are struggling and would like some suggestions or resources for learning better study skills.

-Ask about tutoring services that are available & then use them! Every week!

-Set a goal to achieve a certain grade in each of your classes. Be realistic. You may not think you can get an A in Math, but strive for what you think you can get.

-Talk with the instructors in each of your classes and let them know you want to get a (A/B/C) in the class. Ask them for suggestions, check in with them occasionally to see what your current grade is.

Finally, ask yourself why you are attending college?
Do you have long term goals? What are you hoping for?
Use these answers to inspire yourself to keep it up throughout the whole semseter.

Good luck!

It seems to me as I read your comments that you have no ability to control your attention. It is a skill that usually is learned much earlier. Perhaps you have some minor neurological disorder. The cause is unimportant. The cure is easy. You are at choice. You said yes to everything you did to earn those Ds. The only harder grade to get is an F. You really have to work to get an F. Start saying yes to things that lead to better grades. Quit saying yes to parties and quit hanging out with others who get bad grades. People who get bad grades support each other in failure. Get away from them. They are helping you make decisions that will f**k up your life. Start hanging out around people who get good grades. People who get good grades have successful habits. Find out what those behaviors are by being in observation. When you spot something that looks like a pattern of success, try it out.

It is clear what you are doing isn't working. Do almost anything different and your chances of success increase 100%. Get your intention clear. Write down every morning what you intend to accomplish that day. Play more. Have fun learning. Use professor's office hours to let them get to know you. They will help you if you ask for help. Go ask.

This isn't unusual, but it is what you do about it that matters. Don't just decide you will do better this year, but make an actual, very specific plan for how you will do this. You might want to work with a counselor at your school to help you with this. I'm serious - every year I see students who swear they will do better this time around, and the only time they ever do is when they can also tell me exactly how they will do it differently this time around.

Don't worry? Is it a right course you've choose? If not, think of it. The best or easy to you. Because when it comes to college, it was not easy just like an elementary or in secondary. Is it comes to your mind about http://www.military-school.org/ ? Maybe this was the right course you needed.
