DSL isnt dial up its broadband

it gets connected to your Phone line

Only your Phones use the filters the DSL modem
must connect directly to phone line

If you just got the modem did you tell the phone company
you need your line partioned for DSL ?

If you ordered from your phone company why didnt they
hook it up?

Most DSL modem have a CD that must be installed
its part of the router setup and verification for use
by the ISP
