Cromwell was a kook.
I think people like royalty as something to look up to...I guess the ultimate fantasy. Power, prestige, and fame that isn't earned or worked for....just given to you just because you're alive and in that line

Having unelected representatives (royals, lords, quangos) makes our belief in democracy look ridiculous. Get rid of the lot and give the power to the people.

We don't need to have royalty: other countries such as the USA, France and Ireland seem to do perfectly well without it. And it doesn't seem to affect these country's tourism or business links, despite what the royalists tell you.

I'm glad that we have a Royal family, but also pleased that they do not run the country and that we have a democracy. Although I'm sure the Queen will have her say when she meets up with Gordon Brown.

Without a Royal family the tourist industry in the UK would decline.

The monarchy is a huge part of our cultural heritage and identity. To lose them would be to lose half of what makes Britain Britain.
